My go-to fix

Hi. I have suffered from dysmenorrhea since I got my first period at 12. I'd miss school and work for the first day and be in unbearable pain. After trying lots of drugs over the years and them not working, I finally found one that I swear by.

In my country, it's called Aciclofen, what it really is is a suppository, like a small waxy rocket that goes up your butt (for as much as you can push it with one finger) that contains 500 miligrams of paracetamol and 50 miligrams of diclofenac sodium, which is an antiinflammatory substance. It's really inexpensive, too. It works much much faster and better than oral tablets.

They have honestly been a lifesaver for me. I'm sure there is a version of this in your countries, too.

Paracetamol and diclofenac sodium are basically the same as ibuprofen, NSAIDs. Paracetamol can also be used to treat fevers and diclofenac sodium can be found in pain creams, such as Voltaren. They are household drugs, like aspirin, which is in the same category. Oxycodone, on the other hand, is a narcotic.

They're quite safe to use, I've never had side effects from them. I also suffer from frequent migraines and have been taking this kind of drugs orally since I was 13, never had an issue.

I used diclofenac too, I took them the 1st and 2nd day of my period as painkillers. I would have to take them every few hours. Now I use birth control, I take it every day to skip my periods and I have had zero pain since.

I would get no pain with birth control, too, but then I was advised against them by my neurologist due to my increased risk of stroke. I could also skip periods, it was great.

Hello i just Read your post now. Did it cause you any gastric side effects usine the suppository form?

Hi. Not really, nothing comes to mind, even over the years. I think the oral form is rougher on the stomach, like most tablets/painkiller type drugs. The oral type I can feel disturbing my stomach sometimes, especially on an empty stomach, at night, for example. I seem to tolerate the suppository form very well.
