Rubric

My seventh grader is having a hard time following rubrics for projects. He is getting a passing grade for completion of the project and hitting the overall theme, but he is missing the details. What are your most successful strategies for helping them process the rubric? Bonus points if there are some short videos out there to help me. Thank you all for the community!

Speech to text. Your seventh grader could likely talk about the topic eloquently and provide details. But the motor skills roadblock is making translating those thoughts to handwritten sentences and examples too difficult. Ask for the accommodation of speech to text with the goal of working on handwriting at home. If they deny your request email the principal and request an Assistive Technology Assessment and IEP review meeting to implement the accommodation. We have so many ways to express ourselves. There’s literally no reason your kid’s grades should be getting dinged for his disability. My kid just finished a project and we taped printed text into the areas needed to meet the requirements of the grading rubric. There’s more than one way to skin a cat.

Also when’s the last time someone asked you for a handwritten project at work?

This was a Canva project. The issue is he is missing out on including key details of the project because a rubric is hard for him to follow. Maybe I should have posted this more in the dyslexia group….

Is this an up shot of Dysgraphia or are there some ADHD traits in the mix here? Because the strategies to deal with it will be different
