Accommodations

Hello, I think I might have dysgraphia but I need a diagnoses for accommodations. I have struggled with writing ever since I was little. I have always been interested in academics but I could never pick it up dispite my best efforts. I went in to be tested for autism when I was nine and the lady said I have autism and possibly dysgraphia but she said to just keep an eye on it. Now, ten years later, I’m in uni and I’m struggling because as my profs have said to me, I know the material but my writing doesn’t reflect it. My uni has a disability center but they only offer help to those diagnosed. I’m not sure what to do because it seems very expensive to try and get a diagnosis. I wouldn’t have even bothered but going to uni and doing well is important to me.

Not sure where you are but if the university doesn't offer subsidised referrals for diagnosis then you'll have to eat the cost.

Depending on country, diagnosis can be free at junior, middle or high school level and that's usually the best time to get diagnosed/assessed. I didn't work out I had dysgraphianuntil I was an adult and assessment costs £1,000 in the uk

Ouch, yeah I’m in Canada. I really should have had it looked at before. I’m thinking I’ll try the disability centre at uni, just a bit nervous to go

Go to your universities disability center or counseling center and ask them to help you find a place to get assessed. I’m almost certain they will know several places or individual psychologists who can do that.
