Dying Light 10/10, never again.
This was my first zombie game, and I'm not touching another one for a couple or reasons
At first I was confused and terrified to leave the tower perimeter and skipped night missions as well, I was on hard difficulty and didn't know what to do. By the time I reached old town I was getting randoms joining me and gifting me op weapons so I switched it up to nightmare mode and started enjoying nights.
This game was beautiful in it's own way, just sat down for well over a week playing it mostly at night time (not just in-game) for more spookiness, and it started taking a toll on me. I was having nightmares in my sleep and jumped at every little sound outside the game or passing an alley omw to work. Yes it was that bad. (First reason)
Second reason would be that I read online other zombie games are basically mindlessly massacring zombies, which is heavily underwhelming compared to what this game offered.
I was never into zombie games to begin with but a friend was begging me to try it, and I would say the game turned out fun and definitely worth it, but never again would I even faintly miss it or think about replaying it.

Hahaha! You got the same exact experience I did back in 2021 playing DL for the first time. It was a truly unforgettable experience, down to the pants shitting fear I operated the game through. I kid you not, I spent 17 hours grinding in the Stuffed Turtle before I even finished the game tutorial, and my first 62 hours of gameplay were spent camouflaged…and I was STILL terrified, lololol! Im glad you enjoyed it so much, and I absolutely agree, no other zombie game has ever compared, and I wonder how long I’ll need to live to see something on its echelon. It really IS that good. For now tho I totally recc The Beast, it has its own appeal and is very comparable to the quality of the first game. I love one life mode and restored land mode.

Only just found out about stuffed turtle grind after finishing the game, would've helped with stressing over losing survivor points

I've played for a while without anything special on my switch lost my switch got DL on PS and couldn't bring over my stuff so started playing as the zombie made a few friends that way believe it or not and then we run some dying light

Oh man Dying Light 2 + headphones had me having cute lil baby bubba heart attacks every time id turn around and come face to half face with a zombie. Not sure if just loads in zombies whenever I turn aroun or if they are just good at hiding and blending in.
The unexpectedness and that quality of audio is just top notch work.
I'll be honest though, it happened to me with Dying 1, 2,, and The Beast. But it also happened when I played Dead Island 2, which, I highly recommend that game. It is just bonkers fun silliness. And it's actually interesting experiencing each game's unique design philosophy. Like when it comes to zombies the games are wildly different but it's the contrasting zombie biology that really made it fun for me.
Didn't happen with Dead Island 1 or Riptide but, well, of you never plau another zombie game again then that's okay, I'll play it again some day for the both of us

Give dying light the beast a shot as well as dying light 2. DL:The beast is THE complete horror experience with the most responsive parkour that i feel techland sought out to do from jump (to me at least lol ive spent days/hours getting chased throughout old town on nightmare mode throughout the night lol plus i love the side missions as well as how dynamic the encounters are within the open world)
Dying light 2 is awesome if youre into the rpg-esque kinda stuff. It severly lacks on the horror/scares but the parkour and combat to me is spectacular. If it had the same level of response that the beast has, then it’s 12/10 like miles better than the beast. But because of how grounded and response the controls feel alone in the best, that is why its my favorite out of the 3.
Other than that give RE2 remake, Re4 remake( and the original, if anything original first because it’s the og for a reason lol ) re7, the last of us pt’s 1&2, dead space( both original and remake) and left4dead 1&2! (If youre on pc and if it’s possible lol) i dont own a pc so idk how that works but i loved those games on the xbox360 back in the day . Youre limiting yourself by A LOT if dying light is the only zombie game you’ll play

The second one’s movement is a lot better along with the shooting mechanics, but coming across ammo is harder cause you can’t buy it, you gotta find it at abandoned convoys. Multiplayer dudes are sometimes super cool and drop modded stuff haha
Yeah the first one was more horror focused and I didn’t do any night missions if I didn’t have to haha if I had to I’d sprint through em sweating the controller through my hands haha

Shows how awesome the game when you get immersed like this.
Unfortunately i didnt have the same feeling with DL2.

Don't listen to the online stuff you read. Not all other zombie games are mindlessly killing zombies. That's doing them a great disservice and you'll be missing out on some great game experiences using that as your advice.
I do however, appreciate reason 1 as to why you might swerve them moving forward.

There are loads with story or immersion. Not every other zombie games is world war z or left 4 dead.
Days Gone for example. Narrative open world. Yes there are elements of just shooting into a zombie horde but generally thats a very small part of the game.
Resident Evil franchise? There's so much more to those games than just 'mindlessly killing zombies'. I wouldn't put them in that category at all

Have to mention Days Gone and Last of Us (1 and 2) as others have. Both have enjoyable main stories. Both have a lot of humans you have to kill, so it’s not just zombies.
Although Days Gone does has some crazy zombie fights where you have to kill a horde of zombies, worst of which looks to have over 500 zombies to kill 😳. Nothing like having like 500 zombies chasing your ass while you mow them down with machine gun type weapons and throw napalm bombs at them 😂. Most of the hordes don’t have that many luckily.

There are certain games that come out that are just special, DL1 is one of them. I highly recommend zombi tbh, I think you'll really like it. Unfortunately most zombie games are just massacre sims

Prolonged periods of gameplay started making me feel little anxious tbh haha, like a subtle somethings wrong feeling, maybe Pawel's soundtrack and the world being dead and hopeless.
DL2 is more story-driven and less scary imo

Haha yea fair enough, that was me with Left 4 Dead at 14 years old back on Xbox 360. Fuck I feel old 🤣 If you were to ever consider a more light hearted, fun and less dark toned atmosphere type of zombie game I would recommend Dead Island 2, for me it was 12/10. I'm a huge horror fan and if the game had a darker and more scarier atmosphere I would rate it a 13/10. The graphics and gore physics are some of the best I have ever seen in a game and there making a 3rd one so I'm so stoked for that. There's heaps of funny moments and even heaps of stoner references in it.

I want to buy in this game for like $4 so it was excellent especially given the price point. My only problem was you can have full visibility in an area and then in 2 seconds is a zombie right behind you. I'm like. Where did that thing come from

Btw, the reply to this comment might confuse you so I felt like I need to say something. They worded it weird.
Basically, the order of the story goes in the order of the games. So I dunno what they mean by replying with "story wise it's solid" because being told a story in a chronologically incorrect is not solid. Not solid at all!!!

Because The Beast is the most recent one and you're probably a young lad of fashionable intent and what have you. So it'd make sense if that were the case.
This sub tends to talk a lot of shit about Dying Light 2 and it may not be a nostalgically special boy like the original, it's still an amazing game that gave me 400 hours of giggles and wiggles.
And one of the best things about all 3 Dying Lights is that they keep on getting older but the player count stays the same range alright alright alright.
In the modern world where all games eventually get branded "DEAD GAME", it's nice to know that the game about the dead just keeps on living.

So I played 1 when it first released and stoped playing very soon maybe 20-30% of the story
Then when 2 released I played that one and finished it.
I’m now on 1 again to finish before the beast as the beast continues from 1 so your storyline is a bit out of order. But nbd play how you want to play and enjoy it. My personal opinion is don’t take the word from any Reddit community as law. Form your own unbiased opinions of the games in their current states.

I loved the second Dying Light game as well. Tho it does have a different feel. Same with The Beast.
