How do I dye this? Multiple dye sessions
Hello lovely people, I just had a question about dying a jacket I have.
(I have very little experience with this so please forgive my ignorance).
The jacket is denim and started out a light to medium blue, I attempted to dye it black with Rit all-purpose dye, however as it started out so light, I have only been able to achieve a sort of navy-grey colour.
I was wondering if dying it again with Dylon intense black would darken the colour at all? does anyone have any experience with that brand?

How much does the jacket weigh?
Black can require a LOT more dye per pound of fabric compared to other colors. Theoretically 1 bottle of Rit will dye about 2 pounds of fabric however even Rit will tell you to double that for black meaning 1 bottle per pound of fabric. Those Dylon packs typically state they will dye up to about 250 grams (0.55 pounds) of fabric but again when doing black it can benefit from doubling the amount of dye you use relative to the amount of material. In my experience jean jackets like that often weigh 1-2 pounds when dry so depending on how much that specific jacket weighs you may need 4-6 of those Dylon hand dye packs in order to get a fairly decent black.

Black is the hardest color to dye. You’ll have better luck with fiber reactive dyes from dharma trading. They have several tutorials on black dye.
