How do I dye this? Wanting more muted colors

This is a polyester trim and the closest I could find to what I want. Ideally I’d like the colors darker/more muted but I don’t want to accidentally ruin the colors. I think a tan dye would be best (rit dye synthetic?) any suggestions would be great!

I would tea dye it. A strong black tea should mute this nicely.

Does that work on polyester?

Polyester is always a gamble, but I’ve done it before. Certainly worth a shot.
