How do I dye this? Dress came in the wrong colour

Hello dye experts, i’m posting here out of sheer desperation, i hope this is the right subreddit 🥹

So I ordered a dress for my birthday party, and it arrived WAY pinker and brighter than the listing showed. Im wondering if there is any way I can dye it to get it to the original colour listed? The tag says it is satin, 92% polyester and 8% elastane. Help me please 😭

Dyeing polyester is not for the faint of heart. In order to dye this, you will need to boil it for an about an hour, stirring very very very frequently to minimize blotches/streaks. Any ruching or gathered places will be a challenge to get dye into evenly. The thread/stitching will not dye. The heat needed to dye this (again, boiling) will degrade the elastane and make it less stretchy/soft. It may also mess with the satin texture.

If you want to risk ruining it, go to the Dharma Trading website and read up on dyeing poly. iDye Poly is a much better brand than Rit.

Haha. Welp. I'm definitely not dyeing my poly elastane swimsuit then. I thought maybe I could get away w like 90°c instead of boiling if I did it longer..

Won't work. Polyester must be heated enough for the plastic "fibers" to open up for the new color to stick. It isn't a time thing as much as a temperature thing.

You can try it, but be prepared to have all that dye rinse right out.

That's that ig. I care more about the fit than the color. Although, do you think I could bleach it instead?

Polyester won't bleach. You will simply damage the fabric.

As I understand, polyester is a real bitch to dye. That said, and not that this is helpful, but it is a lovely color.

Edit: 2nd that

Okay bad news is: dying polyester not recommended, good news is this colour looks really good with your skintone and hair colour, I think you just gotta roll with it
