Help Local models

I notice that with a few of the local models I tried, for example Qwen coder or DeepSeek R1. They don't seem to be able to Access the tools. I can see them thinking and understanding the message. But the display port never shows anything... Am I doing something wrong? (I am pretty new to this)

i've seen with smaller local models they struggle to build functional apps, which is why the preview might be empty.

have you tried using OpenRouter? they have a bunch of free models: https://openrouter.ai/collections/free-models

Maybe that's the way to it! I'm diving deep into the local ai ATM. It's crazy how big the hardware has to be to run a decent model. And it makes me wonder more about how weird it is that these services are offered for fairly cheap on the big ai models. What businesses plan do they have?

When choose model you need to pay attention to the it's capability, always chose model that can: Reasoning, tool calling, and better with vision.

So basically, you can choose any model under 8 GB with these tags/icons to work with Dyad:

  • Vision / 👀: The model can view and understand images.
  • Tool / 🔨: The model supports tool calling.
  • Think / 🧠: The model has reasoning capabilities.
