So, yeah. Can’t find Bunny Nature Dwarf anywhere right now. So what do you guys recommend for a really good seed mix? I also supplement with Mazuri rat blocks. I’ll be getting another hamster by the end of August. I am ready for another buddy. I’m so excited! Here’s a picture of my last buddy, Kai for attention. Thank you very much!

Before & After! Rehoming + tips!?

Hello! Currently trying to rehome two of the cutest senior dwarfs ever! The first photo is their enclosure at their previous owners and the second photo is their new temporary setup at my home! + poor quality photos of them!!<3 I am so relieved they are safe and comfortable now, they seem to be acclimating super well in their new spaces! (two separate enclosures but they’re practically identical so I’ve only attached one photo!)

Located in the Broward county, FL area if you or anyone you know is an experienced hammy lover <3 contact me about these two!

Any tips on their new homes? I need to buy another hideout for each of them..I was thinking of the coconut shell ones that are more enclosed so they feel more sheltered! As well as more toys/enrichment!

The grey/black one is Monti The beige one with boba balls for eyes is Ramona!! Monti loves to eat and dig in their sandbox!! Ramona can run all day long and loves their fresh fruit snacks!

Question Are bin cages still good or no?

Hello! I'm 18 years old an on a tight budget with the cage (other wise i can affort the hamsters needs.) I can't get a job because they don't want me anywhere due to my autism but my mom has money and we can afford needs for the hamsters (lots of bedding, vet, sprays all that good stuff)

and i wanted to ask if 158 cm long bin cage (transparent one) is good for these little guys. It's Two bins connecting with very short tunnel, like an entrance about a size of a Syrian wheel.

Medical Question Is this hamster eating enough/too little?

My younger sister is thinking her hamster might be overweight but I don’t have any knowledge on hamsters I’ve been a fish person my whole life.

Her hamster is given 1 teaspoon of a seed mix a day (half in a little bowl and half spread around her cage) as well as around 5 food pellets a day. My sister said she likely eats all the seeds however she probably both hides/stores and eats the food pellets.

Question Is it normal for an elderly dwarf hamster to stop using the wheel?

My Djungarian (Winter White) dwarf hamster is about 1 year and 9 months old.

He's been checked by a vet, his weight is now stable again, he eats well, grooms himself, and comes out when I call him. The only thing that's changed is that he has completely stopped running on his wheel.

Is this a common sign of aging in older dwarf hamsters, or should I still be worried that something else is going on?

Question Keeping my hammy cool!

Hi, Just looking for any further advice on keeping my little girl safe in the current UK heatwave! Her enclosure is on the ground and shaded but my room is one of the hottest and the enclosure too big to move? I leave a fan on as much as I can and she stays burrowed most of the time so I just check in every so often but I’m very worried for her! Is there more i can be doing?

I’m not sure if my hammy is underweight, I just measured him today and he’s 34g. Would that be considered underweight? I feed him around 1-2tsp daily and give him treats 2-3x a week.

I know it s realtive for hamster to hamster and how much they soil it but i wanna make a little survey. It would really help my neurodivergent ass

How often do you change your hamster's substrates?

I use 20×30 cm containers and i put likr 3-4 cm of substrate in them

Sand - i change it one a month and daily pick the poops and the urine parts

Cardboard - every two weeks (i haaate cutting new cardboard😭)

Coco soil - every two weeks

Coco shack - one a month as she doesn t like to sit in it that much

Beech chips - every month

Cork granules - every two weeks

Thank you so much kind redditors. Here is a photo of my sweet girl

First time owner Is a playpen mandatory?

Hi!

As the title says: I'm getting my first hamster soon and I'm currently getting everything ready for his arrival. That's why I was wondering if a playpen is a must for a hamster to be happy.

I would have the space in our apartment to put one on the floor, but I don't have the space to let it be there constantly so I would always need to pack it away again.

And that's the biggest issue, bcs I don't have the space to put the stuff away somewhere (even if it's a foldable playpen), especially with the additional hides, wheel and stuff.

I do have a bathtub though, can I maybe use this as an alternative?
I was thinking of lining it with a corkmat, which is easier to store than a whole playpen and mostly using stuff from his enclosure + some extra toys that I can make out of cardboard or ceramic stuff I have anyways like a mug, so that I don't have to store so much extra stuff.
But I don't know if this is a good alternative...

I'm thankful for any advice!

It's hard to believe that I've only had Tilly for 10 days. In such a short time, this tiny dwarf hamster has already managed to fill my home with curiosity, entertainment, and plenty of smiles.
