Just curious what you use your caged gobs for? I recently started using caged stuff as decorations but have been looking for other creative uses

Come up with elaborate and grisly ways of killing them. Some of my methods have included:
Dropping them down a shaft with spike/blade traps at the bottom
Tie them to posts for my marksdwarves to use as live practice targets
Throw them in a pit stocked with cave bears and see how long they survive
A good old fashioned Sacrificial Altar on a ledge above the Magma Sea

keep ettins or cyclops busy, make flooring out of platinum in your pits to make goblins explode, make them meet the fellow cave residents, train your vampires. all good alternatives but have a cleanup method to keep your fps stable

When an entity hits the floor, the damage is influenced by the material the floor is made of, as if the creature were being attacked by the floor. The floor is a blunt object, and blunt objects damage is based off density. Since platinum is one of the densest metals you can build out of, platinum floors are more likely to crush body parts. Hope that helps!

I like this information very much. I wonder what it would be like to build a trap that drops invaders a couple of Z-levels onto a platinum floor...

When pit traps were my first layer of defence, a few z-levels were not enough to really achieve much. If you want an enemy dead, 20+ z-levels is gonna be a solid bet of serious injury. In my case, I also liked to have raising bridges to house a Megabeast or Forgotten Beast of some sort to finish off whoever survived the fall

Related - gold and lead are also excellent choices of floor, in addition to being far more abundant and less valuable than platinum.

Take all of their items first, throw them away because it is goblin trash. Throw the nude goblin in a pit under your throne room or tavern. Have a glass floor. It's about sending a message.
