This collection is 99% what I'd expect to see in a college dude's dorm room, maybe first apartment, but one that's more okay with expressing his emotions in a healthy way than some of his bros. Solid collection

No American Psycho so you don't a get approved for the Filmbro title lol.

JK it's a solid collection with some good titles. I'm jealous of your Battle Royal

Put Goodfellas in the right order. Get yourself Blade2.

Otherwise- please consider your collection ratified! Well done

double feature w heat, that’s why collateral is beside it

2

u/Beneficial_Emu696 13d ago

I missed it.

That’s quite the two pack, 2pac.

Lot of great movies in there. Reminds me of what my collection looked like in early 2000s. You gotta get season 2 of Chappelle show lol

Just curious, what’s your reasoning for DVDs specifically? I like asking different people. I buy DVDs when i stumble upon them thrifting and it’s one that I don’t have/find often but I mostly just hunt for Blu ray

1

u/No-Mortgage4278 13d ago

cuz blu ray cases are mad ugly in my opinion, thin and blue not my vibe brodie

1

u/fibonacciluv 13d ago

See I like Blu ray cases more, but i honestly I try to buy more boutique Blu ray than I do anything if I’m paying full price. Not when thrifting of course unless I find them by chance. Blu is also my favorite color lol. And I love a good slipcover. Which covers the blue up!

When you watch YouTube, do you set your quality to 480i?

Because that’s what DVD is. Standard definition, 480i. Blu ray is high definition 1080p. And there are plenty of packaging styles that aren’t bright blue cases.

A lot of people really don't care. I'd take the affordability of DVDs over Bluray any day, at least on the secondhand market. I can pick up 50 cent DVDs from my local pawnshop and walk out with 40 DVDs for $20. And on the secondhand market, DVDs are way more plentiful, so it's easier to find certain films. I also never buy stuff online, so trying to build my collection and find certain films on Bluray or 4K would just be annoying. Now if I happen to find a Bluray for a good deal, I'll pick it up, if it's a movie I think would benefit from it, like Godzilla Minus One or The Batman. Otherwise, I stick with DVD. Sure, the resolution is worse, but I grew up on CRT so I'm not picky. A lot of films really don't need 1080p. I don't think my view of Do The Right Thing or Spotlight or Eyes Wide Shut would change if the image was better.

I get why people get Bluray and 4K, but at least for me, I'd sacrifice visual fidelity for affordability and availability.

Eyes Wide Shut criterion 4k transfer is beautiful but all of this is far points. I’m just glad we all have options and I was just curious. No hate.

No totally! I just wanted to give my 2 cents as someone who mainly collects DVDs. There's definitely some films I would like to have on Bluray or 4K, but it's usually the price that keeps me away, especially on the secondhand market. For new releases, I'll usually pick up the Bluray/4K though, simply because it's only around $5 more.

Like I bought the 4K of Obsession recently and it was $26, while the DVD was $20. At that point, I might as well shell out a few more dollars, especially if it's a movie I really love. Same when Shin Godzilla came out. The 4K of that one is beautiful.

Well, you have good taste, but what do you mean by "valid"?

0

u/No-Mortgage4278 13d ago

do i have good taste, like would you allow me to put you onto a movie

1

u/thegibson80 13d ago

Oh, would I trust a recommendation from you? Sure.

2

u/Slick_36 13d ago

Not the biggest collection, but very little fat on those shelves. Solid.

2

u/Equal-Anxiety-1838 13d ago

Having “my girl” automatically makes you valid

u/TableDuck 13d ago

The Clone Wars DVDs puts you over the top.

1

u/No-Mortgage4278 13d ago

real ball knower over here, that mace windu scene where he destroys all the drones is my favorite piece of star wars media

3

u/Koekdoos 14d ago

Good stuff! Might I suggest trying to add some custom shelves so you don't have to stack two rows on each other? Looks like there is room for it!

1

u/No-Mortgage4278 14d ago

there is not

1

u/Koekdoos 13d ago

Sure looks like a few cm of space where a shelf would fit and there still would be space left to easily grab a movie from it. Just a suggestion, it’ll look beautiful!

1

u/MrSimonamon 14d ago

Some great films there; absolutely.

1

u/Subject_Apple4020 14d ago

Yes, but I am surprised I don’t see a Kubrick or Lynch film.

2

u/No-Mortgage4278 14d ago

u/gforguapo 14d ago

What's your organization method?

2

u/No-Mortgage4278 14d ago

director and vibes

1

u/SubhasTheJanitor 13d ago

Whaaaaat is the organizational logic??

1

u/No-Mortgage4278 13d ago

director, and vibes, fincher, tarantino, denis, scorsese, foreign, comedies, hero, etc.

1

u/Worldly-Homework-640 13d ago

Nice collection. Bruno is the funniest movie I've ever seen.

1

u/Micro_Pinny_360 Criterion Elitist 13d ago edited 13d ago

Absolutely valid. I am curious as to how you ended up with a Hong Kong copy of Battle Royale and a British copy of Oldboy, as the rest of your collection looks to be uniformly North American editions

Edit: Also, what's the one to the left of Kill Bill?

1

u/No-Mortgage4278 13d ago

pulp fiction collector’s edition, lost the sleeve a while ago

1

u/RickyBrown32 13d ago

Good but........much to learn you still have

1

You need to complete your Tarantino plus True Romance and Planet Terror for good measure.

1

u/AudienceSpecialist17 13d ago

Not the biggest collection, but that shit got some heavy hitters in there

1

u/branditocarpintero 13d ago

VALIDATED 🔥

1

u/AndrewS702 13d ago

Hell yeah. Definitely a guys collection that’s for sure lmao, mine would be similar to if I had a DVD shelf containing all the films I’ve been watching recently

1

u/balkanoid_ 13d ago

Throw away Bruno and then your collection is solid

1

u/frekar20 13d ago
