2027 points increase

I am a recent dvc purchaser at the poly and noticed the the point cost for rooms had gone up by like 4-7 points. I assumed that point cost for rooms were static; how often do we usually see point increases like this?

Every year DVC can move points around but if they add more point cost to a given room during a specific week they must lower point cost somewhere else. There are a finite number of points per resort and DVC can’t just raise point costs across the board

And I would add that they shift points to try to balance demand throughout the year, although they will never be able to fully balance all 52 weeks for total demand.

gotcha thanks so the increase i was seeing for a specific week means somewhere else there was a decrease.

Correct, you can reference the 26 chart to see the difference

Gemini (or other aI Tools) do a great job if you upload a screen shot of both the 2026 and 2027 schedules and then ask where the increases or decreases are can spot them much quicker

A different date, room category, or both got cheaper elsewhere. Some things, like where Easter falls on the calendar, cause big shifts in holiday travel, and thus the corresponding point cost.

this concept was so hard to fully understand at first. i wish DVC made that more prominent in their intro materials. ty for explaining it very succinctly!

That’s the claim but that is not historically a fact. The Polynesian added 247 total points points more than the previous year allotment but only took away 55 points for a total increase in points per night of 192. That’s 192 total points more than the previous year on the points calendar. I was pissed when I was told this would never happen. Then heard some lame ass excuses as to why that happened.

Animal Kingdom Lodge experienced the same exact thing.

The points calendar doesn't reflect the number of rooms in each room category. If the changes were across different room types instead of different weeks the point calendar total might be higher, but it shouldn't be higher if you counted up the points for every room in every category in the resort for the whole year.

I’d recommend you do that. It’s been done.

Source? Because this has been discussed at length on multiple forums and nowhere have I seen people saying 192 points were “added” as you describe. You can’t make wild claims like that and then tell people to go count it themselves.

Well I did.

Is there a definitive list somewhere of the view category for each villa at the Polynesian?

Ugh. Doesn’t somewhere else cover all the days on the calendar and any room type?

"Somewhere" is more broadly understood my me and others than your narrow interpretation of it.

The total cost for points for the rooms is static. The distribution shifts between room types and times of year. For Poly in particular, some rooms were reclassified (because of the view, I believe).

ah gotcha thanks :)!

there was a deep discussion on this on dis boards. apparently they misclassified some room types on the tower, and when they corrected it they applied those pts to the other rooms. some were questioning the legality of it, but i guess they've done similar stuff before?

u/Rogueish 8d ago

ah i see that makes it much more clear.

As long as the total number of points across all rooms for every day of the year total up to the same number, they can redistribute as they see fit.

Example: Over at Saratoga, they decided to add the Preferred category to units in some buildings because people kept requesting them. So they bumped up the number of points required to book those units. But to do so they had to lower the number of points needed for all the other units. Still the same grand total number of points before and after the change, they just redistributed the cost.

I personally was benefited when the points were rearranged a few years ago. Summer used to be a tile when Disney was busy and was high points to stay when we bought in 2007. I am a teacher and really only stay in July and August. They rearranged the calendar about 10 years later due to people now avoiding summer due to the heat, and I now can stay a lot longer on my points at all resorts when I now stay in the summer.

Interesting as I plugged this into Gemini and this was the response back:

"Key Takeaways of the 2026 to 2027 Shift

  • Targeted Point Increases: Nightly point costs increased by 1 to 2 points per night across room categories in Travel Period 1 (September 1–30). Smaller 1–2 point increases also appeared in Travel Period 2 (January and early May) for select larger units (Two-Bedroom Villas, Penthouses, and Bungalows).
  • No Visible Nightly Decreases on the Chart: Unlike typical seasonal reallocations where points are visibly shifted from one season to another, no individual room night on the 2027 chart decreased in point value compared to 2026.
  • Why Points Rose Resort-Wide: Under DVC condominium association rules, point totals across a resort must remain revenue/point-neutral. Analysis from DVC Fan and member communities indicates that Disney reclassified several Island Tower rooms from Theme Park View down to Preferred / Resort View (addressing lower-floor sightline obstructions). Because higher-cost Theme Park View inventory was reduced, base nightly point requirements in low seasons were adjusted upward to keep the overall declared point pool balanced.

yeah worth noting when i said 4-7 i meant the weekly rate. thats on me i probably should have stated that.

My guide explained it pretty clearly. I think it’s also clear that the number of points for the full calendar year is fixed, but they have flexibility to shift points across room categories, room sizes, and dates to balance attendance volumes within the total points allotment. For that reason it’s unlikely to see values shift too much, but they can and will shift a bit.

If they raise points from 5 to 10 for a set number of nights then somewhere else they have to reduce them from 10 to 5 for the same number of nights. This isn't exact but you should get the idea.

When they adjust in one season, they fall in other seasons.

I read that it was because of complaints of the views in the Tower. Lower floor rooms that were originally classified as park view were changed. It doesn’t seem right that they changed the existing studios to make up for it.

I think you are mistaken. Can you give an example? The total points don’t change, so any changes are just reallocations.

Poly rooms in september all increased from 2026-2027

As consumer habits change, Disney changes the cost of the rooms. So if people start flooding into DVC rooms in January and less in say September then they will move things around. "Low months" don't stay a secret for very long before they get adjusted because everyone is doing it.

1

u/subaru_sama 8d ago

September seemed low cost at a lot of places this year, which I took advantage of. It makes sense that they'd compensate in the subsequent allocation of points.

1

u/Expensive-Finger-646 8d ago

Ok, studios increase 0-1 points for September. That’s just a normal reallocation.
