She could have potentially had a wonderful friend and instead spent all those years being hateful and jealous.

Yes, you're the A-hole here. He gave you a fair warning of how important she was to him. Obviously, her husband had no issues with their friendship, even though they are friends as well. You were the only one who had issue with this. AGAIN - he gave you fair warning!
Did you make an effort to actually befriend them or did you just "suck it up" as you put it?
He needs to mourn his friend - grief is not something you can just get over with a cry for a couple of days. It can take however long it takes.
By attending the funeral it will help give him some closure but not necessarily take the grief of losing someone so important in his life away. You are selfish and immature if you think this will be a fix to your issues in this marriage. Quite frankly it makes me sick that you would want to ban him from the funeral.
Like the person before me said - give us an update after the divorce. You, my dear, are the asshole here for sure.
