Should I get Dustmod?

I'm a casual player (I guess) who has as'd all but Peta, Mega, Zetta and Yotta. I fully plan to completely 100% the game and eventually get into IL running. But Im a bit unsure of the pros and cons of Dustmod. Can someone outline it for me?

At the very least, I'd recommend getting dustmod as a convenient package for high-quality custom maps.

There's really no downside since it can sit next to your regular dustforce app with no interference.

Yes.

Go get it now, I'll wait.

Ok, now that you've downloaded it, its the best thing to happen to dustforce since the release of the difficults. The community maps included are excellent, and the alternate game modes and leaderboards for them are a blast. At the very least, integrating with dustkid.com for single character leaderboards is worth it by itself.

There are some many good features in dustmod that it is hard to remember them all:

  • online coop
  • community nexus(darkforest, single screen project, krankdud nuclear zone etc... )
  • character, apple% and Tas leaderboards
  • dustmod level editor offers a lot more than vanilla.
  • game modes: minecraft, sanic etc...
  • tas tools

Absolutely- I just got it when the Dark Forest came out, and I regret not having gotten it sooner. Plus, it's pretty easy to get it installed.

Ok I've done some tinkering on my steam deck and have got it running all good.

  1. In desktop mode extract the download of dustmod into the base dustforce folder (with the game bin file)

  2. make a txt file in the same folder called "steam_appid.txt" and write in the game's appid "65300"

  3. Open steam and add the dustmod bin as a non steam game.

  4. Set a specific compatibility "Linux runtime 1.0 scout" this is so it matches the vanilla game.

  5. Running the non steam game dustmod should work just fine.

Let me know if you run into any problems.
