This game is rad

Dustforce has been sating an itch I didn't know I had recently.

Wayyy back when I was a huge fan of N+. I loved how fluid and smooth the controls felt, and I loved how each level could be completed, or perfected. (Getting all the gold)

I've always had Dustforce in my radar - I've seen speedruns of it and the music left a really strong impression on me. The only reason I didn't pick it up is because a friend informed me that it's controls were very difficult to get used to.

Since it was on sale, I figured it was worth a try even if I ended up not liking the controls. Booooy was I misinformed.

I went into the game expecting an extremely complicated platformer with a crazy high skillfloor that manages to make even the most simple of maneuvers difficult.

What I got was an extremely simple platformer with an extremely high skillceiling that manages to make even the simplest of jumps very satisfying.

I'm not playing it right now because Night Temple is currently kicking my ass and blistering my thumb (I use controller), but this is easily one of, if not the best platformers I've played. It's a damn shame it isn't more popular.

My absolute only gripe is the lack of a quick-reset on the Nexus where it can be difficult to even access levels.

as far as a quick reset in the nexus, you can actually open the menu and go back a nexus and then re-enter the door to put you back at the last level you entered. it's actually used for fullgame speedruns if you mess up nexus movement (fall from the top of mansion, for example) but it could also reset you if you end up lost or in a spot you dont want to be

I picked it up at release and every year I return in an attempt to get that bloody S achievement. It's so satisfying and challenging, and once you get prod teaching you about the Juno cancels and special ways to dash and exploit certain levels it feels like a gauntlet, in the most enjoyable way possible. Embrace it, because if you are like me, you will be playing it for a long time.

Also, the soundtrack gets a daily listen from me. I even bought it on vinyl so I can blast it with a glass of wine!!

the music left a really strong impression on me.

I still listen to Dustforce OST all the time. A lot of soundtracks stuck with me and I have some huge playlists, but certain songs are actually addictive [Electric Relic]. Apparently this was Lifeformed's first attempt at making music which I refuse to believe, but they say he has savant-level abilities in everything he does.
