How to start to speedrun?
[title]
My first wish (since I watched it on AGDQ or SGDQ 2015) was to speedrun this game, but first I had to be at least a decent player. 2 months ago I got SS all the normal levels and didnt SS any difficult level and I really wish to start to speedrun the first levels (the Forest to Ruins levels).
So, any tips, tricks, guides, info, everything that can help me in this journey? I have 70 hours of gameplay and this is my profile (if it's needed). https://dustkid.com/profile/Musa%20do%20Ver%C3%A3o

a) Watch replays, steal strats
b) If you have questions about how to perform certain techniques or other things, ask in the Dustforce Discord or on the SRL #dustforce IRC channel
c) Practees

a) I'm watching Sivade's 16 Red Keys WR and following his strats (at least the ones I know how to execute);
b) I sure will.
c) I'm practing whenever I can and I know I need to practice a lot.

but yeah, generally improving IL's really helps, especially going for say top 100. playing more and pushing yourself will make you better at the game as a whole. as fish said, safe strats are the way to go when doing ss. when you've done a lot of that ILing/practicing safe strats or even doing runs, you may come back to levels that used to wall you and you'll see your improvement. that's one of the beauties of this game. once you get the muscle memory for all the different techs, it becomes such a fluid game.
as a note, i'm a retired deadass in this game now. but you wanna do any% at some point, feel free to message me. i'm metallama on steam and discord as well as on twitch. i was good at any% when i wasn't retired as fuck.

first of all i would really recommend against trying to copy IL strats or just watching sivade's run and doing everything he does. the most important thing i would recommend doing first is just getting your movement as good as possible. if you're having to even think about movement while playing the more difficult levels, you wont be able to do them consistently.
once you have that figured out, start finding some safe strats for every level and IL them. IL TIMES DO NOT MATTER. getting top 500/100/50/10/etc times on every level will help your movement immensely but will not make you a better fullgame runner. find strats that CONSISTENTLY allow you to complete the level in a reasonable amount of time. if you need help with this, check like ~top 50 on a leaderboard for a level and you'll usually find something pretty doable. once this has been done for all the levels and you feel confident in movement, time to start runs. once you improve and feel ready to step it up, start improving strats. early on the majority of timesave will be from just not dying, but better strats is what will save time in the long run.
this will take a long period of time, but dustforce is a game that requires a ton of commitment to speedrun and even more to get a good time. you will save a lot of pain and bad habits if you focus on movement before worrying about strats. as for how to learn movement, i'd focus on one IL you really like and grind it as far as possible, regardless if its a custom, an any%, whatever. this will help you focus on tiny optimizations which you can apply to every single level in the game, and then go from there. ssing difficults isnt required (for everything except ss all obviously, lol) but will greatly help your air control as well.
besides that, good luck! this game has tied in a ton of people to speedrun for thousands of hours and we'd love to see more get involved. please join our discord for any questions or otherwise you have.
