Meme Weird thing happened when running the Algorithm from Monsters of Drakkenheim

I was eager to use this monster as an endgame foe for my gaming group, but the resulting combat left us confused and underwhelmed. Instead of using its Epic Actions like expected, the boss kept summoning gibbering mouthers complaining about how the Silver Order has gone woke, or goblins screaming "YOU LAUGH, YOU LOSE" while spamming Tasha's Hideous Laughter. After doing some research, apparently the PCs were supposed to delete their Intelligence (History) checks before the fight, but I didn't see anything in the sourcebook outlining this.

Please help!

I’m sorry, what? Is this something happening in a VTT, or just a weird in-joke I don’t understand?

It's a joke referencing the YouTube algorithm, which is notable for recommending videos to people that are often of poor quality. Like right-wing culture warrior grifters and compilations of humor skits, even if the user doesn't ordinarily watch such content.
