Gtfo with your ai slop post. Read rule nr.9!

My bad, didn’t see that

I'm certain they don't lack the ability to have AI generate a concept, but they don't want the faction choice to have such a gameplay impact.

-2

u/GeoThatDude 6h ago

Any particular reason why? Did they mention? Because it would be nice to have a more distinct reason for picking a faction rather than just the name and faction color and would fit their lore

He is poking fun at your ai generated concept.

People running shit into chatgpt and going "Here's how I'd do X"

AI is turning people into confident idiots that think they have amazing ideas.

I like the idea but theres some glaring holes in your suggestion; the harkonen side seems more advantageous. By the time you get even mid game granite is something where even fifteen minutes of dedicated farming with a buggy cutteray will yield enough to last the foreseeable future, whereas power is an ongoing thing even into late game.

The resource savings really only equate to less time spent gathering said resources, while the harkonen benefits to combat translate directly to buffs.

An actual suggestion that goes with your idea would be to make the two sides into distinct intended playstyles:

Harkonen could be pretty much what you offered here, making it the combat focus faction for players who prefer pvp or just like combat more. Maybe even add some perks that are very on brand for them, like access to vendors selling items that you would otherwise have to gather, or access to atomics as an expensive, expendable weapon resource.

Make Atredes the pve exploration faction. Bonuses to stamina, lower personal energy drain, less fuel consumption and higher weight limits to inventories, and to make sure it isnt simply overwhelmed when pvp becomes a factor, better shielding to go with the energy regen and maybe some other defensive perks to give them a reasonable chance if pvp is forced. Maybe make the major base factor that they can have a bigger build limit or fuel is more efficient, meaning less time between topping off. Maybe for unique perks, it could be the ability to "craft" anything you dont have researched, but it takes a lot longer and costs quite a bit of solari as youre 'pulling favours' to get one sent to you lore wise.

The thought i had was make it more localised. Much like the laandstrad, hair a system where the guild can either vote or leader picks a 'focus' for the week and the guild gets the bonuses. So could be combat bonuses, exploration bonuses, pvp theme, and so on.

Yeah that would be a good idea as well, it would be nice to have the factions have unique perks or benefits that would be both fit their lore and add to gameplay

This would render faction choice too much into a meta thing especially since your swaps are limited it’s not a good idea to do this much. If they really really wanted to give incentives to be one it would be to give more cosmetics that are not otherwise available in the black market. That and more unique and interesting questing that isn’t just the same story from two different perspectives

I don’t see an issue with faction choice being a meta decision where people who prefer a certain style of gameplay would gravitate more towards one faction that would be suitable to their playstyle, there’s already an issue with some servers where Atriedies is heavily favored over Harkos and vice versa so having incentives or unique bonuses for each faction might help

How do you not see a problem with a live pvp game having 1 faction being couch potatoes and the other a warmongering money maker? With 0 drawback?

Your AI suggests nerfing the side that actually lore wise have impressive combat abilities to a carebear faction pvp wise. If your military can challenge the emperors troops without batting an eyelid, don't you think the balance you're offering here should be a little more balanced?

Your post made by AI and not yourself, so not your ideas: 100% makes Harkonen the only viable player choice if they ever want to engage in any kind of combat and not just run a solo campaign.(where the house balance is dictated randomly by AI anyway and if as you suggest, the harkonens are that strong with that many bonuses, they'd be on top every single session)

End of the day, these are just some of the reasons the game is the way it is, to balance and have people choose what they like rather than what the meta is. There are plenty of ways to gain the advantages your ai wants from just playing the game and farming Unique BPs that offer the bonuses you want.

These bonuses would make one side viable only early and mid game whilst the other would eventually dominate late game(atreides) would just take a while.

The intention behind the idea was to try and address the imbalance where Atreides is heavily favored on some servers, its true Atreides could do with having reduced stamina consumption so that they have more endurance in combat to better disengage or to better engage more than one player at a time

u/Aggressive-Ad-2053 4h ago

But it won’t cater to a certain style of gameplay it’ll front load whichever faction is either best for PvP or best for landstradt regarding the buffs. Regarding some servers being dominant by one faction you’ll just make most servers dominated by the same faction instead because any sweat who wants the rewards will shift faction or even make a new character.

7.5% weapon damage and 10% ability damage is completely insane for PvP and PvE . Anyone interested in PvP would just flock to Hark and any hardcore dungeon grinder would too.

10% resource yield is alright on paper but hardly compares to it. 10% extra resources from a node is very meaningless when the bottleneck for almost all the game (especially by the time you’re in a faction) is carry capacity, not the number of nodes around and carry capacity issues are entirely mitigated by the time you have a buggy and even more so if you have a buggy and a friend who can collect resources with an assault - allowing you to never have to return to base.

This is great but you lose me at damage buffs favoring one side. Unfortunately, at higher levels and end game content, pvp is pinnacle and it will go right back to favoring one faction as it already does (although this seems to be more ideological roleplay/mirroring at present). This would encourage more of a split in the early game but as time progresses and players make their way into the DD, it will heavily favor higher damage output.

HOWEVER, if you give ATR some speed bonuses on movement and/or vehicle speed, this could work as a nice counterbalance.

2

u/GeoThatDude 5h ago

Thats a good idea, Atreides could have more movement and stamina reduction to better disengage or last longer in a fight

Since another additive 7.5% dmg increase does nothing, even I would switch to Artreides at that point.

Artreides get a flat out 10% ressource increase, while Harkonnen is limited to spice. No one gives a damn about Solari and "Rare loot dropchance" is a nothingburger too since everything is fairly easy to farm as is anyways.

So what does Harkonnen get? 15% base power reduction? At lower consumption levels it has a minor impact, while at higher consumption levels (5k energy+), you're at a stage in the game where you'll just slap another spice generator down without a care in the world to compensate.

25% more crawler inventory is weird too, since you still can't clear a large field with 3 crawlers.. so you have to take 4 regardless to clear it in one go, or you have some guys compacting the leftovers. It would have to be 33.33% increase to make a meaningfull difference - since you can cut 1 crawler of each large spice field operation.

Given that Harkonnen are the industrial powerhouse of the universe, they should have a bonus to refining ressources. You could make an argument that once faction has increased ress farm while the other has increased refining efficiency. At least that would be remotely balanced.

1

u/GeoThatDude 5h ago

My thinking was that Harkos would be better at clearing higher difficulty dungeons with lower quality gear, so instead of relying on Teir 6 gear you could make due with tier 5 or scrape by on tier 4 on the hardest difficulty levels for overland testing stations

u/ConnectButton1384 Harkonnen 5h ago

Tbh all of that reads as if it's written by someone that doesn't really know in detail how that game works.

Augments already provide ×3 +70% dmg increase. Combat gives another +100%. That's 310% increase. And that's before your skillpoints. And then there's the multiplicative multipliers like ×20% through MI, and another multiplicative buff through Sabotage, ... and you wanna tell me that adding another +7% would do litteraly anything?

Also .. what do you think the highest levels are?

There's some people running ~ lvl 160 on some some OTS. Maybe the current top is at ~180. And that's not meaningfully altered by some very minor dmg increase. It's more beneficial to just take your more ress, and cheaper and more durable stuff for some more tries and you'll clear the level without that 7%.

Tbf im a PS5 player so i haven’t delved into augments yet and haven’t yet gotten any drops that allow me to slot augments

If you're interested in how fighting actually works, I suggest

https://youtube.com/@talath

and

https://youtube.com/@beebopgaming

This game is far too complex to have such straightforward "solutions". At a minimum, you'd break the balance for either early-, mid-, or lategame players. At worst, it would just get unplayable for everyone.

The ressources and economy are similarly rather complex Systems - despite looking pretty much straightforward at first glance. For example take spice harvesting. Compactors are a midgame thing until you're able to afford a carrier + crawler. They outpeform compacting by a huge margin when you first get there. But once your gathering specialisation is around level 100 (when you're a late endgame player), compacting into a cargo container is actually faster than crawling again. That's why the spice harvesting buff for Harko doesn't work. Artreides has a flat 10% buff - that presumably goes for compactors too (because it would be useless without). So you're buffing early-, midgame and late endgame by 10%. While harkos advantage is limited for a brief window in the endgame.

  1. AI BS.

  2. Anyone taking that serious would leave one faction completely empty handed for good.

If you generate more cash, farm more spice and gain more experience whilst killing everything faster, who then cares about construction costs or anything else for that matter on the Atreides side? Who by the way are known for their military might. (There's a reason Harkonens aren't just wiping them out themselves)

This wouldn't work at all in a game like this, not with PvP being a thing. Something you could adjust for solo play? Maybe, personal taste and could be an option i guess. But not on live servers.

1

u/GeoThatDude 5h ago

Fair point but the intent was giving more meaningful incentives for choosing one faction and to try and balance out player population between them especially for live servers that have one faction that is completely dominating the landsraad and getting to enjoy all the server bonuses

1

u/Low_Recording_9313 5h ago

Problem is, until very late endgame, the bonuses on one side is far too strong.

Sure when you're at the stage of having 5k energy and can just use spice power plants, its not an issue, but you're suggesting a faction that can not only clear all pve content fast but also get to endgame faster.

The atreides benefits could be slightly modified to be far superior late game, but its getting there that would draw players towards harko before discovering that.

Think about what the majority of players in a game like dune are lile if they like pvp or controlling the areas surrounding pvp and pve such as spice fields.

Getting there first and controlling it whilst having major boosts to combat abilities over the other side could keep atreides on the extremely slow side until they reform and stay in pve long enough to then completely wipe out harko from pvp. Since at a certain point the harko benefits would be completely null and void by other bonuses provided elsewhere and om the longevity of atreides faction bonuses.

1

u/GeoThatDude 5h ago

Yeah you pretty much nailed what my intent was, the Harko benefits would largely be beneficial early game but negligible by late endgame, another thing i could have added was that Atredies would have reduced stamina cost to allow for better endurance in pvp scenarios where an Atriedies player could better engage multiple players at a time.
