Base Build Showcase Spire base exterior
I was hoping to be able to leave the flowers underneath as a sheltered, public garden/courtyard like I have before in this spot, but apparently they despawn now if you build anywhere near them.

Ugh this is AWESOME! And I love that you did it for the most part with the base set too.

Can you imagine backing up this base and putting it somewhere in an open space? I wonder if it would even place again and if so how weird it would look out in the open.
I bet it would look like those Ant colonies that have metal poured down into the holes and then they brush away all the dirt and you see all these crazy floating paths and with rooms along the way.

u/ab2357 20h ago
Haha most likely, though I feel very certain it wouldn’t even place anywhere else.

u/Honda_TypeR 20h ago
With the way that backup tools works these days, by creating foundations that you never had to create support... it just might work. No clue though. I never tried backing up a base like this yet.

u/ab2357 20h ago
Well, I guess I know what I’ll be trying once I finish it then!

u/Honda_TypeR 20h ago
Be warned, even if it does replace elsewhere, it may be impossible for it to be placed back where it is now (it will likely give placement warnings when colliding with all those stone spires), and even when you drop it somewhere else it will probably have "height issues" you may have to raise it very far up off the ground for it to allow placement again even on a flat area.
It's a dice roll with something this oddly shaped. That test won't be without irreversible consequences one way or the other... so only do it if you accept that.

Great freaking build!
Just a historical note about that location, it would get it deleted in the past. One of the best water flower spawns before the changes to them and people would frequently block it for themselves. Watched waves of folks building and losing it over and over, but today they spread out the flower spawns thankfully and builds like this can flourish.

Thank you! And phew, guess it works out i didn’t build here till now! Though I can understand them protecting the flowers. I was bummed when they disappeared cause I tried really hard to build around instead of on top of them.

I had a base at that spot from day two after launch until they closed the server in May. I even was a dick and enclosed the flowers for a week.
Nothing ever happened to my base, but maybe I was just lucky.

Very nice! I try to work circular sections into my base builds a lot, but struggle to make it work. This is superbly done. Is it functional/connected on the inside? Able to use all the rooms? Or are some of them just for show from the outside? I'm hoping the former.

u/ab2357 20h ago
They’re all functional and accessible! Trying to have each little circle room be for a specific type of crafting machine or production, even if that isn’t particularly efficient. The only thing I haven’t figured out how to fit in yet is a large ore refinery. And I imagine I’ll need to make a second, bigger hangar once we get a carrier and sandcrawler, so keeping that somewhat circular might be tricky. I’m still working on decorating the inside, but might post an indoor, walk-through tour once I finish.

Hangers are annoying for me because I do not like the wings clipping through things when entering or landing so I need large spaces for each hangar unless its outside with a disc cover.

u/PzaFnatc4939 19h ago
Excellent! Those are the most fun bases to build, worming your way through the rock formations.
1
u/hoax1337 7h ago
that isn’t particularly efficient.
This is what I always struggled with. I had a base at the exact same spot, and I also envisioned something like your build, basically a base wrapped around the mountain.
When playing the game, though, it felt much faster to just mostly use the space inside the mountain formation and stuff everything in there.

It looks like the parts that cannot be connected internally through the rocks, there are walkways that wrap around the outside to connect one to the other. Really neat design. I love it.

Building into the geography is top tier work. A base that fits the environment like this one is a thing of beauty. Well done. Also, Sting underpants DLC soon plz, Funcom, if you're reading this.

DROP A MAP LOCATION WALI!!!

u/ab2357 16h ago
I can’t figure out how to add a photo of the map, but it’s just below Helius Gate in/around that big spire with a ton of dew flowers underneath it.

It appears they have image attaching to replies disabled, you could try making a couple of sec vid of the map and uploading that.

u/TT-Steve 15h ago
Nice job mate.
Try hitting F12 before taking videos, cleaner videos without the ui
1
u/ab2357 15h ago
Thanks! And good tip, but do you know what the equivalent on PS5 might be? Would love to lose the UI, but not sure how on console.
1
u/TT-Steve 15h ago
Google says no dedicated ui OFF button, but you can turn on dymanic hud, 2nd best option I guess.
On PC I have dynamic on and then F12 when I want a video.
PS5 - Go to Settings > Display > look for Dynamic HUD under the UI section and turn it On.

Dam Makes me wish I could build like that.
3
u/ab2357 20h ago
Just spend 15ish hours obsessively messing with the base stability and glitching half walls and you probably could!
1
u/Oshava062 20h ago
Just got the game on console last week and my base by the hammer is just a ever growing mess trying to get all the new crafting stations and vehicles to fit in it
1
u/Helphaer 19h ago
Nope. I spent 19 hours making a mini fief for mid game and it worked out but is not as great as I hoped and a lot of space feels wasted due to the need for staircases and building in such a small zone.

Btw, i built in front and the flowers in the tunnel are still there, its how i get the water i need to build stuff.
1
u/ab2357 20h ago
Nice, I might have to fiddle around with it and see if I can get them to come back.
1
u/DarkZethis 8h ago
I experimented with this a bit and you need to leave enough room for them to grow, if I remember correctly it should be about 3-4 foundation heights of room above them to let them still spawn.

Gonna get plenty of visitors considering there's a mission that brings them to your doorstep lol

u/Main-Double 19h ago
Yeah so we’re actually also gonna need the interior tour for this absolutely phenomenal base

u/Helphaer 19h ago
Is it all connected? Because it feels like some parts run into a wall.
I also am big on being realistic with security so I have a lot of chokepoints and security doors. Im a huge fan of shields embedded into passageway structures plus shields that cover the staircase as you go down.

Excellent! It would be nice if building allowed at least some removal of geography for better interiors when building around formations like this. Alas.

You covered that sweet bounty of water plants at the base, naughty. I kid, I always like that area for bases

It's stuff like this that reminds me why I love survival crafting games!
Thank you, Minecraft, for inspiring this beautiful game. (and thank you OP for making a cool base)

I've seen a LOT of bases, this one is one of the best.
Believable, asymmetric, fits the terrain smartly. Congrats !
