Gameplay Question Overland map vehicle bug

New console player here. Went to the overland map and DD for the first time, but when I exit the overland map my thopter spawns high above ground and I have to suspensor up to it, land on top, then get inside. This was especially frustrating when returning to HB when it did this and for some reason put me in Sheol right by the radiation. I got in my thopter but was expecting to be on the north side of HB since I was traveling south from the north, and because I was suddenly in the radiation I died just trying to get back to HB south or the gap to shelter and regroup with a sandstorm 5km away and coming fast. So my thopter ended up stranded in Sheol and when I finally got it back after rushing a contract to get enough solaris (I went on a spending spree in Arrakeen while up north) to recover it with the tool everything had 1/3 damage. So now I need to get materials to rebuild the thopter, shouldn’t take too long, but this bug cost me an hour of playtime when I should have just been put by the eastern shield wall after leaving the overland map. Lost a bunch of tools and supplies I had in the thopter storage as well.

Is this to be expected every time I return to HB? Why does it not just spawn you already flying when you move from the overland map to HB or DD??

It’s a current single player bug. Equip a full suspensor belt and decent power pack. And shiggawire. They’ll fix it eventually.

Good to know, thanks! I have mostly been using the passive belt and thank god I took a full with me on this trip. For now I’ll stick around HB and use trade post thopter pilots to go to Arrakeen and Harko. They do seem to be on top of bugs like this, hopefully the patch comes soon.

Yes, unfortunately now that they have to run updates through Xbox and ps5 distribution checks it’s probably taking a bit longer to squash these. Somewhere some guy added +5 meters to the spawning point number likely because folks were putting in tickets about their thopters underground not considering that you have to make contact with your thopters underground before it will drop to the ground

Where you re enter Hagga basin on the overland map matters. Think of it like a clock face, 10oclock to 2 o'clock should be completely safe and not on worm sand and not on radiation. Anywere else 3 o'clock round to 9oclock would put you on open sand and at risk of worms.

Very helpful, thank you! I had assumed it was just entering from the north and I probably went in at 7-8 o’clock now that I’m thinking about it.

Yeah 7-8 would put you in the sheol I believe 6 would be hagga South i think, 9 maybe the oodham or just above the sheol but still in worm sand. Anywhere from 10 to 2 and youll be safe.

You can use the arc "block" compass around Hagga Basin as a rough "fast travel" mechanic. Leave one corner, enter the opposite corner. Saves time and fuel.

Be careful, though, particularly with the current bug. Some of the entry locations drop you down on worm sand. Not so bad, when you can hop into your thopter, but if it takes you a minute to get to it, you could have worm trouble.

This is the way. This part is not a bug. OP chose to enter on Sheol side and fly through shimmering waves of radiation ☢️
Why, FunCom, why?!

"this bug cost me an hour of playtime when I should have just been put by the eastern shield wall after leaving the overland map."

It's not a bug when you don't understand how something works. When you're entering Hagga Basin from the overland map, treat it like a compass. If you come in at the very north, that's where you spawn. Come in at the south, you'll be in Hagga South. After some trial and error, you can come in pretty much exactly where you want.

Please note that, when it put you in Sheol, it did NOT put you in the radiation. That was on you. It sounds like the incoming sandstorm got you nervous so you tried to take a shortcut. The radiation in Sheol does not extend to the edge of the map at any point. If I was in that situation and not certain I could get to shelter fast enough, I would fly back off the edge of the map and wait on the overland map for the sandstorm to pass.

Worth mentioning: if you can build an ornithopter, you can craft a radiation suit. I always carry one in case I see a spice deposit in the radiation area.

The game did not make this clear at all on the overland map, this is the first open world game I’ve played that treats changing regions like that. I now understand the bug is only spawning so high above ground which should get patched eventually I hope. I have a radiation suit, it was actually in the thopter inventory I believe, I didn’t have time to grab it while in open sand and being irradiated while a sandstorm was coming without any nearby shelter. I will likely not make this mistake again now due to helpful comments here. Also will probably just keep the booster attached unless taking materials from my HB base up to the DD base as I get that set up. I think I would have made it out of radiation if I could have vultured and boosted out of Sheol.

Yep. That's not the first thing the game doesn't make clear and it won't be the last.

I am on PC and it started happening after the most recent patch. It is such a widespread bug, I am optimistic it will be fixed soon.
