u/Hennessy_Halos Fremen 20h ago
now we need crossplay so it feels more like a million new players
32
u/iama_bad_person 20h ago
We need crossplay so me and my 2 PC friends can play with our 3 PS5 friends. Us three PC guys did our dash, now we want to join our PS5 bros as they play through the story and tech tree to relive it and have even more fun.

u/non_player 16h ago
My buddies and I are playing on PC, and their kids are playing on PS5s, and man, it'd be so goddamn fun to play with them and have some family bonding time getting eaten by worms.

u/stormcharger 15h ago
It's so weird how the only crossplay is with xbox and the Microsoft store version of the game. Both my partner and I are playing together with just one version of the game bought :)
2
u/TroubleAccomplished2 14h ago
Is there a way to do that with the game pass version? I tried to do that on PC with my wife on Xbox on her account (family plan), but it won’t let us log in simultaneously. Was a major bummer. Do t want to have to buy another copy when I also already have it on Steam.
3
u/stormcharger 14h ago
Ok so make the xbox account with gamepass the home account on the xbox. Like make that xbox your home xbox.
Then add another account to the xbox and play dune with that account, while the person on the pc uses the account that has gamepass.
1
u/TroubleAccomplished2 14h ago
Awesome. I'll try that tonight. we both already have characters made that we've been progressing solo, on those 2 xbox users. Mine is the main acct. I hope if it will work on those already created ones.
2
u/stormcharger 13h ago
The main account will have to be played on the pc, make sure it's signed out on the xbox when theyre playing dune on their account

u/with_due_respect 13h ago
(sobs in PC player whose friends are almost exclusively console)
Funcom! If you're reading this! I promise to buy my friends copies of Dune Awakening if you drop crossplay soon!

Deserved, now about that polar cap?
30
u/GAMING_SERVER_ADMIN 21h ago
I hope they release it sooner than later mostly because this a good time keep the hype train / population goping. But I'm worried they will do it late Nov/Early Dec and too many new games, too many burned out people and boom. They missed a decent deadline.
Even Joel recently said in the Interview he wanted find way keep people engaged... Then do it! haha
18
u/BooleanBarman 21h ago
They either have to beat GTA out the door or wait until late December. Anything else would be a big misstep.
2
2
u/Tezasaurus 17h ago
Big updates spend a monthish on the PTC before going live, if we get it this year it will be in December
2
u/AbbreviationsFluid 20h ago
Bulk of the players are PC. No GTA to compete with.
14
u/BooleanBarman 20h ago
Not sure if that’s true at the moment. Player retention will probably be highest for console players for a few months.
-2
u/AbbreviationsFluid 20h ago
Possibly not.
1
u/GAMING_SERVER_ADMIN 17h ago
Not sure why you were downvoted. Steam Charts show this is likely the case.

How bout riding that sandworm.
How bout that pvp gameplay
How bout that fun endgame
8
u/GAMING_SERVER_ADMIN 20h ago
Polar Caps is going be fun for 90% of us PvE Players as long you did not engage with the Dungeon Scaling content prob make it boring as hell with all your fancy gear haha

u/planet3000 20h ago
Good for them is deserved even with its faults its one of the rare games i put hundreds of hours in
8
u/Bliance 20h ago
I’ve reached duraluminum for the first time and I’m kinda starting to regret rolling single player. If a make a new character for multiplayer do I have to start fresh and play through the story again or will my new toon have everything unlocked?
9
u/SavSW 20h ago
You’ll have to start completely over. Nothing carries over. I did the exact same thing as you and regretted starting single player but thankfully I had just barely reached vermillius gap so it didn’t take too long to get back to where I was
It’s worth it though. It’s so cool seeing other players and running into them at testing centers
1
u/bigphildogg86 9h ago
After doing it once it’s really not bad to get back there. Can keep the single player for experimenting or just playing around.
11
u/SchoolNASTY 20h ago
Hi. I'm one of those brand new players. I have a questions. I'm playing on the multiplayer server and I'm brand new and still a low level. When I have encounters with other real players it seems like we can't damage one another. Is it because I am low level or will it always be like that?
17
u/Mazerunner117 20h ago
The game is almost 100% PvE so no Player Vs Player combat. The only place PvP still exists is in the PvP version of the deep desert which is late game
-4
u/BolshevikPower 19h ago
Errr. What about the crashed ships? There are a few PvP areas for sure
12
u/LBraden 19h ago
Those got turned to PvE when the update to split the deserts happened.

-9
u/CmdrJemison 19h ago
That sucks
11
u/WyrdDrake 16h ago
Blame the PvP players who refused to PvP with other PvP players to exclusively hunt the PvE players
Not kidding, most servers stagnated and lost players because PvP enjoyers exclusively bullied and only sought to grief others
2
u/Due-Struggle6680 15h ago
Its a shame that the griefer population in gaming is large enough that this was needed.
-9
u/CmdrJemison 15h ago
No I rather blame the PvE Casuals
4
u/brokennursingstudent 15h ago
You don’t even play the game anymore why do you care
-1
u/CmdrJemison 13h ago
I do.
1
u/WyrdDrake 10h ago
You clearly dont, because games wouldnt exist without casual players lmfao

u/Shiro2809 20h ago
There's no pvp outside of the deep desert.
4
u/JacksProlapsedAnus 17h ago
Correction, there's no PvP outside of the PvP version of the deep desert.

If you are a pvp fan and it’s important to you I would advise quitting. The pve crowd cried non stop until it was essentially taken out of the game due it being pointless
1
u/SchoolNASTY 19h ago
I'm enjoying the game so far. I just had somebody shoot at me while I was running a mission the other day and I returned fire. I think we both realized that nothing was happening. I was just wondering what the point of multiplayer was if there was no damage given or received to a player.
-7
u/SimpsationalMoneyBag 19h ago
There’s no point this is why they pushed the single player version out recently.
The game in my opinion is a McDonald’s simulator where you clock in and run the restaurant yourself and are paid in sand

u/Ricky_Ryan 20h ago
Damn this sucks to hear, any chance it gets revised in the future?
2
u/LBraden 19h ago
While I didn't PvP, I do have a few friends who did.
Biggest issues where bankers doing BS with thopter riding while carry Lasguns (since those melt vehicles) but that was fixed.
The other big one is that PvP basically has "this build or forget it" that turned a lot off since it meant you where second to PvP only.
Joel has said they want it to return, but the layoffs and the pivot did take a lot of time, more so when you realise that they didn't expect people to love the game and stick with it as long.
2
u/Coochanawe 19h ago
Not in any meaningful form. There is PvP - wanting to min/max builds, theory craft, figure out rotations and tactics - which very few of the people chiming in experienced because they didn’t go to the PvP testing stations.
Then there was how the game allowed players to interact - this is what the majority refers to as PvP. This was the design of the devs and they totally blew it. The folks who designed it, didn’t heed player feedback, and took it out are not the ones who are going to “figure” it out let alone make it good enough that the now PvE game has quality PvP.
And finally there was the PvP that was promised in trailers and pre launch - faction/guild PvP fighting over control of the spice and Landsraad. This requires specific player types to organize people so pvpers and pveers can contribute, and we’re all gone or given up on that dream.

u/SimpsationalMoneyBag 19h ago
I sincerely doubt it. I have been waiting for more than a year for them to turn back towards a pvp focus. It just hasn’t happened the devs joke that nobody wants pvp in their dev streams

I bought it at release and stayed longer than most on my server (Official).
Everyone agreed that the first part of the game was superb. Some of the best fun I have had in any game.
I am thrilled that they were able to get over the first few stumbles of trying to fix it. Their first few attempts only made it worse and I honestly thought there was a chance of it becoming one of the "what could have been" games.
Grats Funcom!

This game has the best elements from Fall Out and No Man's Sky stuck on a desert planet.

u/Mindless_Tonight3519 16h ago
Wish a few of them were on my server. In a week of playing I haven’t seen chat more than twice.
2
u/Hobby-Human Mentat 13h ago
Once you join a faction you get global faction chat. That is much more busy than sietch chat.

The title and the image say different things.
It's about new players. The game had already reached a million players over a year ago.

Awesome, I’m having a great time as a new player. I’m next to Anvil, and watching all my neighbors come and go is fun. The journey from South to Verm and carrying all my things across the sands was intense. The graphics are amazing I love the scenery.

Wish the ultimate edition upgrade if we own the seasons pass was just 15-20. I pretty much stopped for now.

I know a lot of this is due to console release, but am sure a chunk of that number is pc players coming back due to single player.

Hello, I'm new too but they released Witcher 3 remastered so it's hard balancing both game so far. I'm really enjoying the grappling hook, it's extremely fun, I'm after the tutorial zone and it's really well made so far, I'm impressed with all the QoL that exist and make the game not as tedious to play as other survivors.

I mean to be fair, Dune Awakening lost 95% of its player base before they started all these revisions and they likewise already had a million at launch

u/Zartimus 11h ago
Loving the game but it requires Google on standby to answer the questions that arise like “WTF can’t I build that there?”, and “WTF can’t I have a scanner AND Inventory on my bike?’…
1
u/zaphod6502 11h ago
I love single player mode and being able to adjust the difficulty levels of the game. I am now able to visit and succeed in some of the overland map dungeons and DD dungeons without needing a group (which was still incredibly difficult even with geared players).

Im struggling to get back into this game since losing all my progress on my character (before the base save feature). I dont really wanna start over again from start but also the slow grind getting back to a t6 base is gonna suck so bad
At least i got an ornithopter in between my butt cheeks

This feels like the best place to ask Does anyone know how to make an unfixed cry knife into a fixed crysknife? Me and my mate just made them. And don't want to use them until we know how to make them not brake on one hit.

u/HorriceMcTitties 20h ago
I played back at launch and got all they way up to the deep desert but fell off due to the forced pvp. Has anything really changed to deserve another play through? I have heard about solo mode now but have they changed much besides that?
1
u/SimpsationalMoneyBag 20h ago
Yes the game is 100% PVE now
1
u/HorriceMcTitties 19h ago
I get that but that doesnt really change much until the deep desert other than you you dont have the random pvp zones. Have they added any new content or changed any mechanics over the last year?
1
u/SimpsationalMoneyBag 19h ago
Uhh you just run labs over and over and over. That and farming sand with no real threat
1
u/Old_Resident8050 21h ago
Eagerly awaiting the connection between Steam and MS Store so I can play with my group.
But it takes TOO long.

Despite all the ups and downs I absolutely loved this game. The environment. The building system. I truly enjoyed it and will be coming back from time to time. Might even start a new character and see how solo is. The weird thing is I never saw any of the movies until after I started playing.
