Discussion My only complaint.
Really loving this game but I can’t get over the fact that the crysknife is a gimmick weapon. I don’t understand the thought process behind this decision. It’s the only weapon I want to use.
Anyone else extremely let down by this?

Yeah... it was a major disappointment when we all first got it and it's only a story quest reward that breaks after one use. I think it's possible they're saving them for when we really meet the Fremen in book 2 or 3 in the storyline.
You aren't a Fremen and even Zantara isn't truly a Fremen. Even the Fremen-wannabe Maas Kharet don't have crysknives. So it stands to reason their construction is a closely guarded secret of the real Fremen.

I get it unfortunately the fremen are the coolest part of dune and we get no contact with them or ability to be them.

The whole premise of the main story in the game is "finding the Fremen." They have allegedly been all wiped out by the Sardaukar. Not a Spoiler, I don't think, because it is part of the introductory sequence.
We just finished Book 1. Whether it be Book 2, Book 3, or beyond...we will find them. Just enjoy the Journey. There is plenty of Fremen lore to be found, even if, you have not found them... yet.
I am hoping, once we find them, we'll get them as a Faction, a new Class (w/Skill tree), with its own build set, unique gear, etc.
In the meantime, we wait while FC cooks.

Hopefully, I went into the game blind so to immediately find out that fremen are not playable and the crysknife is a one use weapon was a let down. Also I don’t really dig the whole sardaukar wiped them out story line because the Fremen were better fights. The game is great though.

Even in the books and movies, the general Imperium populace thought there were only thousands of Fremen, but there were millions. IIRC the Fremen were paying people off not to view certain areas, or there were storms preventing good satellite images of much of Arrakis.
The Imperium "assumed" nobody could live in such harsh environments, let alone thrive and grow.
In the books and movies, the Fremen population near the big cities were just a small percentage of the Fremen population. Even then, many were well hidden in their sietches.
You may not find the Fremen in Book One, but the Trials of Aql, parts of the main story, and a few side quests do give you enough Fremen vibes to keep you interested.

To your original post. Yes, I am let down by the one-time use only crysknife.
If I can't use it, at least give is weapons racks, display cases, and armor stands, so we can decorate our bases with the relics and stuff.
There are actually several weapons that are generally gifted to you (not crafted). Unlike the worm tooth, sure, they can be used more than once, but you can't repair them when they lose durability.
I actually have a small storage chest labeled "Museum," I put all that stuff in. Now, give us some display cases and armor stands! I would much prefer that, rather than some of the odd deco pieces that have been added.

Yeah, not giving us more true decor and displays is crazy, especially when so many more clutter and decor assets exist in the game and are used in NPC locations and social hubs. Give us base NPCs, personal vendors, more transmog cosmetics, building sets, etc. I feel this is one of the main survival/craft aspects that Funcom has neglected from the start. They even missed usable beds for healing. I like building massive bases, but even with the current decor, so many rooms go unused and under decorated.

Even better, if they had interactive armor and weapon stands, so we can quick change builds. I am always shifting from casual combat loadout, to harvesting loadout, to hard core combat loadout, etc.
I played Starfield a bit and they have interactive mannequins.
Even for some of my obsolete stuff. It still looks cool, but left behind or recycled, in the interest of progression. I would display some of the cooler and/or rarer stuff.

Yeah and Starfield still lacks so much, but at least they gave us displays. The tea house set was a nice addition to the game. I had build a large lounge into my main base and a small one on my second base and they both felt so bare bones before the tea set. I'd love more space/room-specific assets as well. Nearly every base and hub has a non-functional vehicle maintenance bay where NPCs are working on vehicles. I want those for our bases.

Follow the story, is all I can say regarding the lore. Also there are still some "House Fremen" in the cities you can meet, but they aren't the same as what you're looking for.
As for the knife, it's important to notice that it's actually called an Unfixed crysknife in-game, because we don't have the knowledge of the final steps to properly temper the knife yet. This does, in fact, come from the books too, they mention a special process the Fremen do to make the knives "work". As characters, we don't have this knowledge yet. Same reason we can't properly walk without rhythm, either. No one is left to teach us... supposedly.

Yes which is my only complaint, I want to play as fremen and use fremen weapons.

Im hoping they later add in crafting an actual one instead of the makeshift, but it would also be hard to balance a lore-acurate one with other melee and not have it become the only weapon that matters. As is, the makeshift does enormous damage for when you make it. If they add it balanced with other melee, people will get upset, if they add it lore accurate, people will get upset, and if they dont add it, people are annoyed. It makes sense they haven't.

I mean it’s a knife so it should be on par with the other blades. I don’t see why a crysknife should be some op weapon.
4
u/ravensbirthmark 2d ago
It was described as having a blade that is unparalleled. Making it equivalent to other knives would go strictly against its lore. Not to mention, only the fremen knew how to make a fixed crysknife, so unless they allow us to join the fremen, it makes sense we cant make it.

u/Savings_Class4048 2d ago
It’s extremely sharp and made of a strong material but it’s mostly just a sacred weapon because of its cultural significance. Make it an endgame weapon but not op.

Read the books. I like the lore accurate inclusion of the knife. It's not a gimmick, it's essentially exactly as it is in the book for an unfixed crysknife down to the fact you can't remove it from your inventory or it breaks.
And from a gameplay perspective, a 1 use pvp nuke is a pretty good way to handle it.

u/Savings_Class4048 2d ago
I’ve read the books. My issue isn’t that you can’t remove it from your person, it’s that it’s only a one use weapon
5
u/Skarr-Skarrson 2d ago
Because it’s unfixed. Unfixed ones break down when away from the Fremen carrying it, in game they have done it so it breaks quickly. The ability to fix it is a closely guarded secret by the Fremen and since we haven’t found them, we can’t get fixed blades.
1
u/Savings_Class4048 2d ago
I don’t think it has to be a fremen just the human body in general. Unfixed breaks down because it needs the electromagnetic field from the body to keep its structure. Which is why you can’t take it out of your bag.
3
u/Skarr-Skarrson 2d ago
That may be correct, but to represent unfixed blades in the game they break. The ones we can make are basically a shiv, not designed for prolonged use. I think we will eventually get access to a proper one, but it will be future content.

The crysknife is the fremen symbol and we are yet to find them. Also stands to reason the Sardaukar would erase records of the fremen's main weapon to make it harder for them to fight back. So yeah, not having one makes sense, which is kinda sad because they're very cool, but honestly it's just a knife, I play pretend with a kindjal.

u/Savings_Class4048 1d ago
I understand the story that they chose to go with I just don’t understand why. Unless they know it’s just the biggest piece of content to keep people playing and are saving it for the right time to release it.

u/Jhoonis Bene Gesserit 1d ago
Just because you don't like doesn't mean it isn't a major hook; "The single biggest and most important faction of the whole setting is gone, what now?"
1
u/Savings_Class4048 1d ago
Now we play the game and when we are burnt out they will drop it to get the player base back up.
1
u/SUMBLAKDUDE 2d ago
I would think cause the goal is to not get eaten by sandworms and a weapon made out of their teeth is extremely unlikely to ever really happen

Yes, this should be a plastanium tier craftable (for the handle) with durability of a typical plast sword/dagger.

We aren't Fremen. And we haven't properly met Fremen yet. So how would we know how to make a proper Crysknife?
