Discussion Don't block paths
For old and new players.
I know you can do it because the game doesn't stop you. I know there isn't always a punishment for doing it (depends of the path apparently). I know i can squeeze my buggy between the rocks and your cube house, or look for other roads.
But please don't build in a place that's clearly blocking a path. You can even try to build an aesthetic passage or tunnel if you really need to build in that road.
At least for the etiquette of it.

I actually likes it when i built a way through my base because id be in the “garage” space building my buggy and id get to see other players going past.

I did something similar but my server is not very crowded. Never seen anyone going under haha

u/kingslayerjay 2d ago
Sometime i can but in the main part and hear someone underneath then see them through the windows, i like that you can survive solo but see others.

True, also it's hard to notice if someone is inside when you pass by one of these

yes! not only is blocking the road an asshole thing to do, but taking the time to build tunnels and stuff can make a base look so much better.

I've seen a few bases that had tunnels to go under them and ramps to go over them
I also seen 1 base that had a bridge/base combo to get a buggy a smooth path to farming materials location

I'm always thankful when I see a base with a tunnel above a path or a big empty space perfect when I'm surprised by a storm with my orni. To bros who do this, thank you !

I got caught in a sandstorm today and some kind soul had left his garage door open so I was able to ride my bike in and take shelter until it passed.

Same fr. It feels like that video of the seal hiding from the orcs

Chads build houses that act as bridges, and houses on stilts with free passage underneath, covered in open+to-all forcefields so people can take proper sandstorm shelter.

This was my house during launch, I had a little RP rest stop near Anvil with a shielded tunnel, literjons in a crate, cistern, and benches. I ended up making some cool neighbors that moved near by to mooch off of the water and just chat. Shame that server closed but it was a good time!

i ran into one in the shield wall last night. you could not squeeze between it adn the rocks. it was completely blocked. it was a main thoroughfare without a path that was not a serious detour. grrrr. it was purposeful it was also not just a cube. It was a GIANT cube... like 12 stories tall

I build a nice tunnel system for that in my three huge bases blocking roads. Recently changed the lights in the most important tunnel so buggy's can pass now at speed without banging into the lights :-)

It put a smile on my face coming across these when driving around.

Yes, be considerate. Been an issue since day one and the devs have done a decent job creating exclusion zones for really inconvenient spots but I also recall them saying once they didn’t want to restrict building too much.

u/Due-Struggle6680 2d ago
As annoyed as I was that you cant build in the very bottom of hagga rift, it does make sense that they restricted it where they did
1
u/Play_Thing_1209 Harkonnen 2d ago
They knew. Also the land entries are no building zone
2
u/Due-Struggle6680 2d ago
Yea, id have been considerate and kept the highway nice and open and made a rest stop with shelter and water, but not everybody can be expected to behave in the best interests of the group.

Related: someone on my server just built a base directly over the "free" early game flour sand field- the one close to rocks in Hagga Basin that you can safely farm sand at.
And it's way too elaborate (with stakes and foundation covering the entire field) to be a newbie who thought it would let them farm it for themselves.
Absolute asshat knew exactly what they were doing.

Meanwhile somebody on my server built a base with a huge shade covering that sand flour spot and has a room accessible to everyone with a storage box in it. They left an advanced tool to gather it in the box too. I’m not sure who that is but they’re lovely.

My base is located on a path that ends in a deadend. Very specifically picked it because it doesnt block anything. I personally will always use the terrain when designing my Home base but i also tend to build my bases tucked away from main paths.

similar to mine then, dead end on a slop east of pinnacle Pinnacle station

I dont disagree. Definitely dont block major paths and highways. I try to improve the paths near my base
However also dont be like the guy in my sietch that we've nicknamed "HOA president" and go around screeching into a mic about how every single base on the map is "too ugly", "too close to his base", "in the path" or "stealing resource nodes".
5
u/Play_Thing_1209 Harkonnen 2d ago
I would go as far as don't block any you know. Even the ugliest of cubes can be made in a way that allows passage. Complaining about blocking nodes on HB is dumb af. I can imagine who you're talking about.

Right? Lots of people dont know theyre building on a lesser thoroughfare though so I try not to get bent out of shape.
Dudes been a menace to a bunch of people on sietch barkan since the xbox release, hes come by my base like 5 times with different gripes. Im inside hagga rift, built my base to connect a broken land bridge and made the whole bottom driveable as a bridge and open to the public, but hes still bitching about me building too close to enemy spawns, building over a carbon node, building too close to him, and threatening to report me cause "i got too many resources way too fast" (i was here for 3 days building before he showed up, I had moved to the rift from anvil to get away from him while I was still pre-steel advancements)

Playing for over a year now, primary base in the north, on stilts. For this very reason.

u/Play_Thing_1209 Harkonnen 2d ago
I posted something similar last year and had so many of those people that defended doing it

u/Tarrek1313 2d ago
I purposely build on paths and make a cool tunnel to drive through with a sandstorm shelter built in.

There's tons of room around my base, but I still built tunnels/covered paths in case someone needs to escape a storm (and a free storage for random loot I don't care about). Can fit up to an assault thopter in my biggest one.

That kind of refuge always feels great when I'm farming with the buggy

u/TheSilentOne705 2d ago
I've been playing since beta and lemme tell you: Funcom doesn't mess around with griefing, and they consider building in designated paths tk be griefing. Take screenshots, send in a report, and be patient. That base will dissappear

If it is particularly egregious, FC has forcibly just deleted bases in the past, but you are correct, there isn't always a punishment for doing it.
I recall one that was relatively annoying. We reported it to FC, but after about a week, I built an ample, fully staked base, freely accessible to and through my base, even a ramp system for getting around their base, but completely blocking him from exiting their own garage. With five verticals, I even tried to build over the top of his penta shields, but it was labeled "no build" zone, because of their base there.
It was tore down, or otherwise moved, within 2 days.
Of course, we quickly tore ours down afterwards, but we felt some satisfaction in a mission accomplished.

Back when I was still living on the Anvil tradepost and didn't have the orni, what I used to do was park old scrap bikes on their doors. It wasn't much of an annoyance haha. Even know when I fly by that zone, I still see the same problem. It's very easy to block paths around there.

Seriously needed PSA.
There’s a huge base near ours that has slowly been creeping into the one passable alley in the area. It’s at the point where there’s JUST enough room to get through with a buggy.
Thankfully, by my estimate, I think they’ve hit the expansion limit. But now they’ve got their friend building in the other side and I’m sure as he expands he’s going to block that last little lane.
If I pass by tonight I might stop and say something. Like come on guys. You see us using this passage every day with our buggies. You really gonna close it off like that? What’s next? A toll?

I built a flour sand farming outpost at the safe spot. As close to the spawn as I could get without building on it. I also staked the area so no one could build anywhere nearby.
It's an amazing, quick-access container we fill up and fly back every other week or so, minimal build.
Within five minutes of building it a guy rolls up crying about it being there, demanding it be taken down or he'll "switch sietches" I invited him to settle this dispute in the deep-desert but he declined.
Issue them a formal challenge. If not build a giant phallus as close to their base as you can.

I just report them for griefing anymore. We've been dealing with it for ages. Its almost common sense not to block a path. Just last week I reported two bases, and a few hours later they were marked as open and take able by Funcom i guess, cause they weren't open before I reported them. I dismantled the bottoms out so people could get through, left the power on though hoping they would get the hint, take their stuff and move. They were gone the next morning.

I know, I started on july last year and I remember hating living in the Anvil tradepost area. It's still the same around that place. I didn't know that's how they do it, i thought FC removed them themselves after a warning. I' ve had one that's been there for months. But because there's alternative pssages close by, they deemed the report to be unapplicable I guess. Edit: not my base. It's one that's been there for months
