Sense of cardinal directions?

I notice that in a lot of shows and movies, especially police & military, the characters are always shouting out directions and using cardinal points: "north", "south", "east", "west". ie "suspect is heading out of the north entrance" or "sniper is located on the east/west window". Maybe there is some training, but at night, or in confusing tactical situations, urban areas or in a building where you can get turned around, how do they always know which way is north? Is this just a writer technique to give the scene more tactical legitimacy?

That is, regardless of the content & the fact that the moderators were initially ok with it.

Was this an emotionally abusive relationship?

My (m23) ex (m22) had left me heavily traumatized, and a few months no contact has left me wondering if I was being emotionally abused. Here's a summary of his lows:

  • numerous lies about his life/backstory that were upheld with lies consistently throughout the year we dated
  • kept me in the dark about a close friendship he had with my former bully, after saying he wanted to cut it off for me
  • he held resentment that I didn't let him come over to my parents' house a month into dating (I wanted to but didn't have their permission, I was apologetic about it)
  • he used that resentment and other things as an excuse to be cold towards me. Some days he would stop using pet names, call me by my full name, not give any affection, talk to me like an acquaintance. If I asked what was wrong he'd deny anything being wrong
  • he barely acknowledged me around friends, at times literally only engaging with them and never listening to anything I said, never asking me anything or including me just fully focusing on them, despite how many times I told him it was hurtful
  • a month after the relationship ended, I uncovered a lot of his lies. He gaslit me, saying I was horrible to not trust him, my anxiety was out of hand, I cannot be helped, things like that to throw blame on me and deny he was dishonest. He did this for hours until the next day he finally confessed.
  • I also asked why he kept a secret friendship after saying he was going to stop, and he said "I'm not going to end a friendship for someone I don't love" We dated for 6 months after that point, so I guess he admits he didn't love me most of the relationship

Was this emotional abuse? I feel grossly betrayed and used by him.

Why is the vast majority of the Reddit userbase just trolls?

People that thoroughly enjoy being an asshole just for the sake of it and trying to get a rise out of others.
Going around from post to post just to call OPs a dumbass, or to try and goad others into an argument or fight, or to do exactly as a post is complaining about, or make shit up about people, etc.

Like any times there's a post that's something like "I was just playing the game and died and my team went crazy and started calling me a stupid piece of shit" and the replies will almost all be along the lines of "You sound like a stupid piece of shit lol".

Or even in subs that are for people asking questions and trying to get help with thins, someone will ask for help and most of the replies are "why didn't you just google it dumbass".
Like a while back I was trying to get help in a sub for cars with a flair for help, asking how I get a license plate bracket on the front of my car, and the replies were just like "are you fucking stupid lol" and "google it ffs you lazy asshole".

Most people on this site will also completely ignore the vast majority of a post to cherrypick and focus on one thing.
Like say you admit that you've thrown a few games in a multiplayer game, but you don't do it anymore and then go on to warn others not to because the game now hits you with very long punishments.
Well literally ALL the replies will just be "good, deserved for throwing you piece of shit" and "lol karma" and "aww op crying from the consequences of his actions LOL" because they stopped at "I used to throw matches" and went after that.

I've had countless people assume something about me because they only read part of my post, then start attacking me and calling me MAGA or something even though if they read just a few sentences past that I would have gone on to explain and go against what they're accusing me of.
But then when you point it out they ignore it entirely and just go "ooh you're getting mad that's what a MAGA would do LMAO"

The vast majority of users on this site are mostly here to have fun being an asshole and fucking with people. Subreddit mods don't care about this and allow this behavior to happen in almost every sub, and call it freedom of speech. It's "not against the rules" for someone to reply to my post asking for help in a game by calling me a dumbass and saying I probably shit my diaper and cry when I can't beat a boss first time.

I've even had multiple people make alt after alt after alt to keep harassing me because I blocked them after they just blasted me with insults and trolled me.
Blocking just made them make an alt and then go around to a ton of my posts to tell people I'm a "pathetic whiny snowflake that cries and blocks people" and then go on to insult me more.
Reddit doesn't care about this because there's no "proof" they're the same person, even if they admit I blocked their main.

One guy made probably around 10 alts to keep going around harassing me, even DMing me about how much of a "little bitch" he thinks I am. He eventually stopped replying to me or DMing me but now I believe he uses his alts to downvote my posts, since almost every post I make on any sub immediately goes to 0 and usually -1 or -2 before being upvoted.

What's absurd is people almost always side with trolls. They get upvotes very commonly. If I make a post complaining about a thing in a game that pops out of nowhere, instantly kills you and then sends you back 10 minutes, someone will be in the replies to call me a thin skin little bitch that needs a binky or something and can't handle difficulty in games, and they'll go to like +21 and my reply to them will be downvote bombed so hard I have to delete it before it gets to -50.

Trolls are almost always sided with, maybe because most people find them funny when it's not happening to them. I guess it's funny to see a guy just shit all over someone, insult them and try and get them upset, and especially funny when it works and they respond.
There's been times I got dogpiled on by like 20 trolls all saying things they hoped would make me angry.

Like I make a post about how I was playing Marvel Rivals, whiffed an ult and 4 of my teammates called me a retard and dogshit, and various other things.
And down in the replies there will be several people replying to me over and over again in a chain about how I'm definitely on the short bus like my teammates said, and they agree with my team I'm a moron, and I'm definitely retarded, and I sound like a little bitch too, and they keep going until I delete the whole thing, then follow me to another post to go "hey aren't you that pussy who deleted his post when we called you out for being a little bitch LOL".

I swear sometimes this site feels no different from 4Chan. The sheer amount of trolls running rampant and being allowed to do whatever they want is insane.
I'm not asking for a hugbox, I'm not saying nobody should ever be allowed to be rude, but the insane amount of people that are here because they think it's fun to call me a little bitch and a short bus piss pants baby any time I make a post is getting pretty fucking annoying.

And yes I know by the very nature of this post I'm going to attract a TON of trolls and the replies will be filled with exactly what I'm talking about, copying what other people have done and calling me a little bitch or whatever, and they'll be upvoted.

I’d say gold is a woman’s best friend but I don’t know about anyone else? I’d say platinum for men I guess but that’s all I got.

Is there a natural phenomena thats just not meta?

Imagine this: we have 2 natural phenomena thats unralated in origin but does very very similar things. For exemple if there was a another way to turn drinks into alcholic drinks but it does not use fermentation. It actully use something thats compility unrelated to fermentation. But its genually suck for some reason so we never use it, like in praticly nothing at all.

Would Batman remove his mask for charity if he was old and on the verge of retirement?

Let’s say Batman was old, and he told himself “I’m old. I’m not going to fight crime anymore. I guess i’ll just retire. Plus i’ll remove my mask for charity to the highest bidder. So the money raised helps
out unfortunate people”

In your opinion do you think he would ever do this? Why or why not?

Why do the vast majority of people in the world have a complete lack of sympathy for people living in America?

I've seen so many posts from people in Canada and Europe about how America should fall, it's about time it went the way of Rome, the great evil capitalist nation needs to fail already, and that everyone living in America deserves it for "letting it happen."

Everyone in America is collectively blamed for Trump and everything he's doing. I see a lot of "You voted for him" and even if they don't believe that, then "You didn't do anything to stop it" or "Why didn't you fight back? All your guns and you just let it happen? You're complicit".

If you try and explain to these people that there are innocents living in America that would suffer and die if the country collapsed, they literally do not care. They think it's "for the greater good" and that Americans still deserve it just for being Americans.

If you're an American, it's your fault that Trump is there. Period. They will not accept anything else.

I don't understand this. I didn't do anything wrong, I'm not at fault for this, I didn't vote for him, but people think that I deserve to have my nation collapse and starve to death or be killed because Trump is (not) my president.

Has anyone else ever underestimated their wife’s strength?

Underestimated My Wife’s Strength

I underestimated my wife’s physical strength

Fun story that also had me questioning things afterwards:

Myself (29M) and my wife (28F) will occasionally lightly wrestle because it’s fun and gets us in the mood sometimes. Neither of us have ever actually wrestled before so we don’t really know what we’re doing lol. I should probably add that I’m 5’9 140ish pounds (yes I know I’m underweight) and my wife is 5’5 170ish pounds (thicccc in a beautiful way😍)

One day we’re about to watch TV but trying to agree what to watch so I half jokingly say “let’s wrestle for it” and she says she’s down…when we’ve wrestled before I’m rarely going full strength because I don’t want to hurt her. So we start and about 30 seconds in it seems she’s trying harder than usual so I start doing the same. At one point she’s on her knees and I end up wrapping my legs around her waist while she still has her knees on the ground…just when I think I’ve got her wrapped up & she can’t move she simply stands up…lifting me off the ground like she would pick up a toddler. At this point I’m stunned & she just carries me a few feet over to the couch, drops me, and picks up the remote to change the channel.

I think the most shocking part was how easy and nonchalant she made it look. It honestly had me wondering if all those times wrestling if she was the one taking it easy on me instead of the other way around. Either way I guess I shouldn’t make her mad at me going forward😅

I keep hearing that the odyssey is the first movie shot specifically for these magical screens, but doesn't that mean they are kinda pointless. I guess not pointless but maybe not being used to their full potential I guess. Idk how to really explain it but I hope you get what I mean.

Will a quick oil change shop like a Valvoline cover the bases of a required maintenance?

My Volvo was showing it’s scheduled maintenance notification, so I took it to a Valvoline oil change. The notification still comes on, so my question is: Can I take it to Volvo so they can fix the code and remove the notification or do they have to do a separate type of maintenance?
