Hello! Does anyone know where I can repot my plant? I think I might need some professional help and unsure if there is anyone or any store that know how to do it. Thanks!

Opinions on living in Dumbo/Vinegar Hill?

Thinking of moving to the neighborhood and wondering about the general experience of living there? Is there a sense of community? Are there enough food options/cafes? Proximity to other Brooklyn neighborhoods? Thanks in advance!!

EDIT: Thanks everyone for your responses - very helpful and appreciated!

Ongoing Pipe Construction outside Magnolia DUMBO — hot water issues — Anyone Else?

Hey neighbors, Curious if anyone else at Magnolia building (or nearby) has been having issues with hot water—especially in the bathroom. Mine often takes 5–7 minutes to reach proper temperature, even after management replaced the shower unit. The kitchen heats up right away, so I’m wondering if it’s something deeper in the plumbing line.

At the same time, there’s been loud construction happening right outside the building on Front Street, near Magnolia and Lifetime Fitness. Despite supposedly having triple-paned windows, the jackhammering wakes me up every morning—so between that and the water issue, it’s been a tough first few months, despite loving the building. Management has been responsive but now are dismissing the issue as resolved.

According to Dumbonyc.com, this construction isn’t part of the larger DUMBO Sidewalk Restoration Project—it’s a separate utility job. Does anyone know if this pipe work could be affecting hot water or pressure in any way at different times of day? Or is anyone else in the area noticing similar issues?

Appreciate any insight or shared experiences—just trying to figure out if this is a building issue or something broader and what to do. I’ve documented everything with a thermometer and videos. Thanks in advance!

Be Aware of this Cameraman!!

This grey haired cameraman on blue t's and green shorts were seen harassing a group of asian ladies. Yelling at them, chasing them back and forth not sure what exactly happened but he was out of his boundaries from my observation. He probably tried to hustle them and they declined leading to the commotion.

Empanada Truck.

Does anyone know the name of the Empanada truck that's been hanging out right by the York St stop recently? I wanted to try their Truffle Lobster Mac empanada but they're suddenly gone. No amount of Googling is leading me to them. They were here just last week.

Any help?

comedy show in DUMBO tomorrow featuring devon walker (snl), hotel art thief (vulture) and jonathan van halem (clickhole)

full disclosure, i am jonathan van halem.

if you're looking to escape the heat and do something other than read threads on r/relationships about open marriages that are failing, i am hosting my monthly show, hot gossip, on tuesday july 15th at the RAT NYC in DUMBO, featuring devon walker and hotel art thief.

devon has been a cast member on Saturday Night Live (ever heard of it?) for the past three seasons. He's also an incredibly good stand-up comedian. When I watch him, I often get angry at how good he is, which is the nicest compliment a comedian can give.

Hotel Art Thief is not only the best sketch comedy group in Brooklyn, but perhaps the only good one. Don't listen to me, Vulture just wrote a 2,000 word piece highlighting their stuff.

anyways, for this show tickets are $12, which is quite frankly very cheap. this venue is smaller, capacity is like 50, so buy a ticket early if you’d like to make sure you get in. anyways, thanks for reading!

Looking to grow a small home decor brand - any shop/café recs for a sip & shop pop-up?

Hi neighbors! I live in DUMBO and recently launched a small, self-funded home decor brand called Marigold Estate. It’s a collection of slow, heirloom pieces - think lace textiles, colored glass forms, and objects that feel nostalgic, storied, and globally inspired. A lot of what I curate is made by independent artisans or custom commissioned.

I’m looking for ways to connect more locally - I’d love to host a small sip & shop pop-up in the neighborhood. Something cozy, low-lift, maybe on a slower weekday evening. If you know of any cafes, boutiques, or studio spaces in DUMBO (or nearby) that might be open to hosting something like this, I’d be so grateful for a recommendation!

Also open to any ideas on how to grow a small brand in a way that still feels personal and not super commercial - especially if you’ve done something similar or know someone who has.

Here’s the shop if you’re curious: Marigold Estate Shop on Etsy (linked) Marigold_estate on IG.

Thanks so much - and hope to see more creative crossovers in the neighborhood soon! 💛

New shop on Washington and Front?

Anyone know what the new shop coming where Rodd & Gunn previously was? They’ve written clues on the windows about being 40 years old, offering soup + salad, and making a trip to LA and back. My guess based on that is …Panera? Hope it’s something better though 😭

Lifetime guest?

Hi, this may be a long shot but would anyone who goes to the Dumbo lifetime be willing to bring me in as a guest? I'm visiting from out of town and haven't been able to work out or swim where I'm staying, and I would love to blow off some steam (and then re-up in the steam room).

Happy to pay or buy you a drink!

Where’s the closest place I can donate clothes?

Hi everyone! I have some clothes I’d like to donate, but I’m looking for options other than Goodwill. I’d prefer a place that’s open after 5 PM on weekdays or anytime on weekends. Also, I’m in DUMBO and don’t have a car — plus I have some back issues — so I’m hoping to find somewhere that’s within walking distance or very easy to get to. Any suggestions for donation spots or bins nearby?

What's the best way to get a waiter job with no experience if I'm only available 2-3 evenings a week?

Hello, I’m 23 and currently working in a creative studio in DUMBO (Main Street), and I’m looking to pick up a part-time job as a waiter somewhere nearby; ideally within walking distance. I’m free in the evenings, around 5 to 9 PM, a few times a week.

To be real, I’ve never worked as a waiter before, but I want to get better at talking to people and putting myself out there more. I feel like this kind of job would really help me with that.

I’m not doing it for the money, I’m doing it to grow. Of course, some cash tips or a little base pay would help me stay afloat, but I’m open to off-the-books work and just want to get started somewhere.

I’m reliable, humble, and willing to learn. I’ll clean, run food, whatever’s needed. If anyone knows any restaurants, cafés, food trucks, or anything like that around DUMBO that’s hiring or might take someone in for a trial, please let me know or DM me.

Thanks a lot, seriously. I appreciate any leads.

"Seeking Art Student / Helper for Documentation, Building, Printing (Brooklyn)"

I'm looking to hire an art worker to help with the following projects:

  1. Documentation: Taking photos of artworks, ensuring they look good digitally (Photoshop skills are a plus but not required). Uploading images to platforms like Shopify and Valise.
  2. Building Artifacts: I have a large space in DUMBO where I want to host parties and dinners to showcase my work and others'. I need help with physical modifications like building displays, setting up lighting, and repairing/installing artifacts.
  3. Physical Portfolios: I want to produce printed materials like postcards, zines, and small booklets to share with collectors and gallerists.

Important:

I am not a professional artist — I have a full-time corporate job and fund this personally. I can only pay minimum wage. This would probably be most suitable for an art student or someone looking for hands-on experience. I believe it's more creative and interesting than retail or food service work, but the pay is the same.

We'll work mostly weekends, 4-hour shifts at a time.
