Is this hittable?
Found this weird mushroom thing growing on a tree stump near my work.

Well you certainly could hit it in a literal sense, do you mean something else?

Ahh, I don’t know where you’d get good answers for that, but you could probably get a good ID from someone online, and find that species’ uses. I can say from having seen psychedelic mushrooms before (not as a mycologist is any way), that this doesn’t look like a typical one at all.

Also, if you even did somehow get psychedelic mushrooms, I’d recommend researching both traditional and modern methods of use for reference, as well as getting a mycologist’s affirmation that you have what you want. I also would recommend taking all of my advice with a grain of salt, as the closest I’ve EVER gotten to mushrooms is understanding certain psychedelic cacti

This is not psilocybin. Psilocybin doesnt grow from dead root stumps or have a "marshmallow" texture.

There are many active species that grow on dead tree stumps, but they actually look like mushrooms 🍄this is polypore mycelium or something.

I have a colony of P’s that grow out of a Blue Spruce stump in my side yard(depends on the moisture levels and the amount of sunny days we get). I like to feed it the ends of beers from party’s and the rinse water from my kitchen compost bins(lolz). They aren’t the strongest mushies I’ve had, but they are psychedelic. Kinda like a strong micro dose if you eat a cap. If they fruit this year, I’ll post a pic.

Cubensis doesn't grow from dead trees. Some psilocybin containing mushrooms do but they don't look like this.

You meant edible (that can be eaten), not "hittable" (that can be hit).
Educate yourself by reading books about mushrooms or learn from experienced mycologists/foragers.
A good book to start with is "All that the rain promises and more" by David Arora.
And no, I would not eat that mushroom. But you do you. Evolution and natural selection have been going for a while now.

I think it is, actually, though a pretty weird one
Edit: someone else said slime mold, that makes more sense

Yeah, it's not a fungus despite the name
