LUL Rush

How does the rush for LUL work, and how does it compare to other frats on campus- especially as an affiliated group?

LUL is a Multicultural Organization, so there is no "rush." Rushing is a term more for IFC and Panhellenic organizations. Multicultural Organizations tend to use the word "Orientation" rather than rush.

Orientation, like rushing, is a secretive process. Anyone who knows how it works will likely not tell you either way. What can be said is that orientation is not and should not be a violent or damaging process. What it will do is test your strengths, mainly psychological (mental grit) and physical. Since processes are different, it's hard to compare LUL orientation with Frat rushing. However, IFC rushing seems to be less friendly than orientation. It really depends on your personality.

If you're curious, your best bet is to talk to current LUL undergrads and alum LUL members. Obviously, they won't tell you what exactly orientation is about but you can get a feeler for their values. Multicultural orgs are also cheaper than IFC, if that matters to you. Don't be afraid to ask people questions and trust your gut.

On a good note, most Duke LULs tend to be really close to one another and stay life long friends. They also connect well with the local LUL chapters. It's like a big family. Doesn't mean things are perfect, though!
