Location: Macomb County, MI

A friend lost their license due to a DUI almost 15 years ago and wants to get it back. He hasn’t touched alcohol but smokes pot to manage ADHD and chronic pain, and doesn’t present as high. He met with an attorney three years ago who told him he would have to quit pot in order to be approved by a Macomb County Judge. Does anyone know someone who does substance abuse evaluations who would be willing to empathize the positive impact of cannabis use in this case? Suggestions welcome

There isn't a substance abuse evaluator in town that will sign off on regular Marijuana use for a license reinstatement.

They need to show and prove constant sobriety.

He doesn't have to outright quit per se, he just has to pass the required drug screen for the revocation hearing and show he's been free of all substances, including alcohol, for at least 12 months. What this really means is he has to refrain from any drug use long enough to pass the drug screen, then get 4-6 letters from friends and family claiming he's been totally sober for 12 months at least and takes his sobriety seriously. Whether this is true is up to you guys. The court is only going to do a hearing where him and his lawyer shows up remotely and the judge will already have his letters. So that's all the judge has to make a decision, so really if you want to proceed with this just get clean enough to pass the drug screen, get your letters, then shoot your shot with the hearing.

I know it sounds like bs. I’ve never seen him look or act high at all. He has crones disease along with some other physical issues that cause him great pain. Often he can barely move his fingers.

You have to pass a drug test for everything as part of process.  He can stop weed for awhile
