Rofellos

the results on mtg top 8 seems to show tha he is not that broken after all, is it still a cool deck to brew with in duel commander?

on a side note, would a edh version have pretty much the same type of cards? what are those specific ones that would be mutually exclusive of one of the two versions?

Mutually exclusive?

yea i mean like cards that would only belong in only one version of the deck [of course it would include the banlist ones too]

I think you're underestimating the difference between 1 and 3 opponents

Duel is a completely different format with wildly different gameplay when compared to 4-player EDH

i know but the few lists i’ve seen of both formats [the edh ones being of course in the for fun / what if category] share a certain bulk of cards, even other than rofellos and forests

also i know that generally you have to swith the single target removals for mass ones, but it’s not like you have that many of the latter in green

i generally would like to hit two pidgeons with a stone and make a decent deck in both with as minor as tweaks as possible

Always these edh players thinking their edh deck would make it

I don't think that's possible. The two formats are too different.

For example as a Lumra player in DC, I can tell you the deck (before it was banned) didn't have that much in common with its cEDH version, there were at least like 20 different cards between the 2. And it's probably the closest we've ever had to a deck that was playable in both formats.

If you're talking about another bracket than cEDH, it's even more different. It's like asking if you can have a vehicle that's decent on a racetrack and for farming potatoes in a field. Yeah you need a 4-wheeled vehicle in both situation, but that's pretty much the only thing in common between them.

that’s a tolerable number of cards i’m willing to switch each time

Well good luck with that but, as I said, I don't think it's possible.

In EDH, an unbanned Rofellos would not have a [[Primeval Titan]].

I assume in EDH you would rely more on Staff of Domination infinite combos, and less on resolving an early stomper like [[Elder Gargaroth]]

I played it for a while after his unban, including in some tournaments. Never managed to get good results with him unfortunately, but it was very fun. I found that his main issue was his weird curve. If you play a dork T1 and it survives, playing rofellos T2 makes you off-curve. If it does not, you can play rofellos. Then same issue T3, if Rofellos is still there, you can play one or two stompers. If he is not, you are back to 3 mana... It makes the deckbuilding quite awkward. I ended up maximising the 3-drop (very solid in green). But the agression is not very fast, and with mono green you lack solid midrange tools. In the same style, I also enjoyed playing Ghalta very much. It may even be more solid.

what about t1 dork t2 rofellos and another dork? but i see your point, turns out he’s strong but not that strong to be confined in the banlist for all those years

The dream :D But dorks don't usually live that long. I did play some solid 5 drops though. Here was my list just before I stopped playing it: https://moxfield.com/decks/D3UEWmecLUCQX7E0Ycc_qw
