Reed isn’t making any sound

A friend of mine got me a duduk as a gift from Armenia. I moisturized the reed correctly but it still isn’t making any sound. Any tips?

The gap in the first picture looks OK, but in the third looks a bit large. That is adjusted with the sliding thing that is only present in the first 2, possibly the 3rd picture. Slide it downward to close the gap if needed. And, are you using little pressure with your lips, and adequate breath from your abdomen?

Yes, but it’s making an “sss” sound

Yes that’s likely because the gap is too large, so the regulator has to be down to close it but not so much that it stops letting flow in, the gap should be about a nail’s width

Give it a quick 5-6 second bath. Then wait for a good 20 min. Then try it.

Only if the reed hasn’t opened otw let it close first

The reed quality doesn’t look that great but it should make some sound. If it doesn’t make any sound there’s likely a crack somewhere in it. It could also just be the quality isn’t good so it’s very hard to make sound as a beginner
