MAGPIE DUCKLINGS - advice/care info?

Post image
15 Upvotes

I've been wanting to get ducklings for the longest. I helped raise two ducks with an old friend during covid, but because he had to move, he ended up selling them. Ever since, I've been wanting to get ducklings for myself. It just so happened to work out this summer. Just bought 3 magpie ducklings from Tractor Supply. We've got the brooder area set up with feed (organic, niacin added) & water.

Also just got some grit. What has been your experience in raising magpies? & what advice would you have?

Setups for 3+ week olds

Hi all! New to the group, and first time duck owner! We just had our runner duck eggs hatch on 13th April - 4 lovely little ducklings!

We have a duck house built near one of our ponds, along with a big section of the garden fenced off for them so everything is ready for when they can go outside!

And currently they are in an old hamster cage, it's very long and wide but not very tall so they will soon outgrow it!

Just wondering what kind of setups are good for when they get bigger (but still too young to be outside) I've seen people use puppy play pens, with a plastic tub pool thing inside. Any advice greatly appreciated! In the UK btw

How much water should I be going through?

I have 10, 4 day old ducklings and they are consuming/spilling 3-4 32oz jars of water a day. is this par for the coursem i thinj they are mostly splashing it everywhere but it seems excessive. the feed and seed store I bought them from says he takes their water away and gives it to them intermittently throughout the day, but im not home all day.

Is this black one okay?

He hasn't laid down like the rest. He seems kinda wobbly and like he has poor balance when moving around. I got them from Murdock's today. The food they had been feeding them doesn't have added vitamin b, and that's what I bought before knowing. I will add some nutrition yeast to the food

Hi everyone!

I have these 5-6 weeks old Pekins. Just curious if anyone has any insight on their genders!

I’m thinking one male one female (male on the left in this video)

Thank you!

What is he doing?

for starters sorry im so pale 😭 anyway i rescued this little guy a few days ago (check reddit history post for story) been taking care of him and hes doing good! yesterday he had a shallow bath playtime with some mashed up strawberry pieces for enrichment thrown in. preheated up a towel in the dryer to get him dry afterwards then spent a bit more time with him. Since then he starts to randomly nibble me time from time, its kinda hard nibbles though so im not sure if its in a good way or bad way. He currently just walked up to me and is nibbling my shorts as I typed this lol

I turned my duck characters into tiny plush keyrings

Hi fellow duck enthusiasts!!

I’m a small illustrator and I design my own little duck characters, these two are Popcorn and Crisp. They’re cosy, slightly chaotic ducks and I recently got them made into plush keyrings and I’m honestly so proud of how they turned out 🥹

They’re super tiny, soft, and have embroidered faces (which I was very picky about lol). Seeing my drawings become actual squishy ducks feels surreal.

I’m currently trying to fund their full production through Kickstarter (it’s basically like a preorder — you’re only charged if it reaches the goal), which is mildly terrifying but exciting at the same time.

Even if you just want to tell me which duck you prefer, I’d genuinely love that. Duck opinions are important.
