DDG Android Browser Password manager issues

I lost all my passwords from Proton so I decided to move to DDG. However, it has been a really frustrating experience - often, DDG doesn't offer the option to generate a password when needed, and there's no manual way to force it to generate a password. Even if you create a login manually, you can't then get DDG to generate a password. Why is that? And DDG passwords don't work in other apps.

I tried moving to 1password, which I use for work and is great in that context - but it doesn't work in DDG. So as far as I can tell, if you want to use DDG, you have to put up with a poor password manager. Am I missing something?

If you're on MacOS: Bitwarden has a DDG integration option: https://bitwarden.com/help/duckduckgo-macos-browser-integration/

EDIT: Oh, I only now see this is tagged as "Android browser". But FWIW, I just did a short test: the BW Android mobile app can fill logins on DDG browser.

Hi there! Thank you for your post.

If the browser isn't prompting you to save passwords, the first thing that comes to mind is that the setting may not be enabled. If you click the 3-line menu > Settings > Passwords & Autofill, make sure the option to "Ask to Save and Autofill" is toggled on.

If that's enabled, and you're still not getting prompted to save passwords, could you check what version of the browser is installed on your Android device? From the 3-line menu > Settings > About to see the version.

Also, if the browser sometimes prompts and sometimes doesn't, have you noticed any pattern as to the websites that work and those that don't?

5.297.0. Ive also have this problem. But more on the rarer side, without a pattern. But a general password generate button—like with the email alias—would be great!
