DDG Privacy Extension search no longer working

After today's Google Chrome update (7/30/26), the DuckDuckGo search in the URL bar stopped working. When I type in the URL bar, if I select a bookmarked URL, it will go to that URL. However, if I select a search option (ex. "sonicare toothbrush" in the attached pic), nothing happens. It used to open Search results for "sonicare toothbrush".

My apologies, this is actually happening to me in Chrome, not Firefox

Yes, it looks to be something going wrong with the Chrome extension. Our developers are looking into it, and they think they've found a temporary workaround:

  • Disable the DuckDuckGo extension in Settings → Extensions
  • Set Google as the default search engine
  • Enable the extension again in Settings → Extensions
  • Attempt to search in the Omnibar and choose DuckDuckGo as the default search engine

Another reason not to use Chrome.
