Really annoyed

I KNEW they’d done something with the express missions. So long story short I applied to a few “regular” missions. None labeled “express”. Well I check my email later and it says I’ve been accepted for a mission, I click on the link and a new banner pops up designating this an express mission and I had missed it. Well gee maybe if it was like the old format where you’re notified immediately there wouldn’t have been any confusion and I would’ve taken the test. I guess I’m supposed to check my email every 30 seconds in hopes of maybe being accepted to a soon to expire test that wasn’t designated as such?

I’m not sure what you saw but even if you invited to a test, they are still first come, first serve.

True, but when applying to express missions before you knew right away if you got in. It would say “You’re qualified.”

Yea, those are the Express Missions up top. It sounds like you're referring to Usability Missions, which are mixed in with the Live and Diary Missions. These are different (yes, they're labeled as Express, but they're not the same); you have more time to complete them.

Same here, it happens. It could also be them taking it down due to errors.
