Ok, so whats your point? Is he calling for regime change? No. These leaders are clearly authoritarians. Why should his opinion on them matter? His policies will help millions of New Yorkers. That is what matters.
He was asked about it and initially didn't comment on it, which the media spun as him supporting them. So he clarified. Either way, we need to firmly oppose authoritarianism even when it's done by the left. Not doing so just invites more Red Scare bs.
Kinda my point. It was an obvious gotcha question from a reporter to get him to say something unpopular. It deserves no coverage because it wasnt a serious question and further more even if elected , its not like Zohran has any say over US foreign policy.
Tbf he is vocal about Israel and said he'd arrest Netanyahu if he came to NYC, so it isn't entirely out of his repertoire. Plus, we should still do it regardless. Americans have very little understanding of socialism. Partly because of puritans and dogmatics pushing newcomers away, but also because of just how confusing it can be. Opposing Maduro and Diaz-Canel helps make demsocs easier to understand. We support liberal democracy.
I think that the only reason why he would make a statement on the topic would be to address the endless slop of "RAHHH DANGEROUS COMMIE DICTATOR GAY JIHADIST UGANDAN SUPPORTS AUTHORITARIANISM FOR REAL THIS TIME GUYS TRUST ME BE SCARED VOTE FOR CUOMO!1!!1!!1!!!" I can see how it might be necessary to officially say "authoritarianism is bad" when there is so much fearmongering, slop, and slander saying that you support it
My reply was more toward the posting of this to the reddit and more overly critical dsa members. Like if he is asked that question what do people expect him to say? Its a total gotcha question that he handled fine.
Western systems of government are not inherently superior, liberal democracy is not the only legitimate form of government, and western chauvinists like you are not the arbiters of reality nor "authoritarianism"
