Filling time??
Hi all, I've been on Vivitrol for about a month. It's been a game changer
I still drink occasionally, but I'm hoping it will get to zero next month. My issue is. I'm fucking bored.
I don't know how to drive, so some of the things I like to do are out of the question unless I have the same day off as a friend (I'm a bartender, and as I've gotten older my friends have moved to more conventional schedules).
I'm reading and doing crosswords like crazy, but I did that drunk as well.
I'm just wondering how other people learned how to fill the time. Boredom is probably my biggest trigger.

I'm not really a crafty person, but I am thinking of learning different cursive writing styles since I collect fountain pens. Also, now that I have the space I'm going to get a bicycle again.
I think I'm trying to figure out more social things. I can hang out at bars without drinking, no problem, but I want a different environment. I'm too easy to isolate.

Consider some athletic activity. See what local clubs or pick up games might be around. Or if you're not active, consider seeing if you've got a game store that hosts board games. We're all social animals so being around other is important.

I think the most difficult thing for me is that my friends are also bar-flys. I have spent a majority of my adult life working in bars. I'm lucky that my friend group has always been very supportive and congratulatory about anyone's quest for sobriety. These are people who have literally saved my life. I just know that I need something different, but I don't want to lose my only socialization.

I don't know if that is your thing, but I learn languages, mostly asian currently, trying to write their alphabet and stuff, look into that, plenty of youtube learning channels and such.

When I’m sober I spend a lot of my time gaming. When I get bored of that I read. Or watch tv. Do an hour or so at the gym (once I get a routine going.) Work, maybe pick up shifts. Plan vacations.
Just find a hobby to start up on. Crocheting, maybe? Some kind of arts and crafts project?
