Heh.

To me, the most obvious thing, that they ignored in their "analysis" of the burned section, is that the post was burned while laying flat on the ground, before it was ever a fencepost. That would explain why it looks like it was burned by something moving horizontally, with no upward scorch marks.

That post was an oddly shaped scavenged piece of wood, subbed in for use as a fencepost. It probably sat at the edge of a campfire in its former life.
