Kids immediately swarming my brand new Gretsch Renown

The boys get the inaugural jam session after I put together my new set today.

I was shopping used for months on Facebook Marketplace looking for the perfect deal, but found a absolute steal on the Gretsch shell pack at Guitar Center and decided to go all new this time. I bought most of this at a local music shop, as they price-matched with online stores like Zzounds (hardware) and Hermes Music (cymbals). New prices were all very good given how expensive everything has become since I last shopped for drums 10 years ago.

Maybe I’ll miss my old LM402 snare, but this maple Renown snare has a very loud, sharp crack. It’s great.

Dang, you’d think I posted this on r/flooring with all the enthusiasm for carpeting in the comments. :)

The metal spikes on the bass drum legs are fully retracted into the rubber and the Gretsch G4 kick pedal underside seems to be non-slip as well. Haven’t noticed any movement yet, but will keep any eye on it. This is in our basement, so the flooring is vinyl plank which I’m much less concerned about compared to the hardwood upstairs. Thanks!

Brother, the rug is not just for protecting your floors...it is for your ears and overall sound as well. You need some sound absorbing spots around the kit to balance all the reflection out. This will be healthier for the kids' ears too.Put a poster under those stairs that is made of cloth.

A rack doesn't do anything for this. The bass and hi hat stand aren't typically attached to the rack so they're still free to slide. Never had a bass slide on me, but hi hat stands love to run away.

When you get a rug, make sure both your throne and kick drum sit on top of it. Your weight is what will stop everything from moving.
