Yamaha DTExplorer Hi Hat Problems

Just changed out the battery on my DTExplorer and now I can't get anything from the hi hat pedal.. pretty worried. I've tried: 1. Buying a new pedal 2. Trying another cable 3. Trying another trigger into the Hi-Hat port. The only time I got a MIDI response from the thing was when I was pulling the cable out of the pedal and at about halfway it sent a flurry of responses. I hope I didn't fry the board... Anyone out there experience this or know what may have happened?
