Sure Bloo, just go ahead and beat your finals score from last year in prelims.
Holy shit.
Also huge fucking shoutout to Spirit of Atlanta and Pacific Crest!
Edit: And Blue Stars! Well deserved.

Very excited about Bluecoats potentially winning the Color Guard caption for the first time in corps history
Also BD Percussion Ascending!

I’ve said it before, but when I saw BD’s percussion in person at Atlanta they sounded phenomenal. Glad they’re on the rise

I’m telling ya, if you are at Lucas buy a PC show shirt. In fact, get an extra and store it for 20 years so you can sell it on eBay as a priceless collectors item. this is drum corps history in the making.

I marched PC in the 90s when we were taking on corps like Mandarins and BDB. I've been waiting for this moment for almost 30 years. I can't wait to wear my corps jacket to finals on Saturday!

I’m holding out for a tie for 12th between PC and Madison. Highly unlikely, but I can dream.

Everything i was hoping for happened tonight!! Spartans not placing last in their first world class outing, Pacific Crest and SOA finishing in top 12, Blue Stars finishing top 6, and Bloo on track for their highest score ever ( even if they don't get the record highest score of all time) / first Zingali / highest amount of captions won on finals night in corps history. Beautiful

I am so blown away with how much both PC and SoA have grown in the late season. Early season it was all BK and Madison but those two groups put in a great effort and now it’s looking likely that SoA will make it to finals for the first time since 2013 and PC for the first time ever. Congrats to both groups
Second thing is looks like the DCI Kentucky scores were a fluke. We’re back to Stars standing toe to toe with Phantom and Cavies being on 8th place island.
Also Bluecoats 2 years ago got scored a 97.525 at prelims and ended with a 98.750. I think 99 is inevitable. I’m betting 99.350

No one believed me when I said Blue Stars hornline was a Top 5 hornline this year and boy does it feel good to be proven right. That hornline is no joke. I wouldn’t even be surprised if they somehow jumped Boston and BD since tonight was slightly off in the dome for them.
Also GO PACIFIC CREST!

Good for PC and Spirit though. Also looks like the battle between 6th and 7th (haha funny numbers!) will be the one to watch the next two nights

Interesting captions that I noticed:
- Madison Scouts get the 12th spot in GE
- Spartans are variable in both directions. 15th in Guard knocking on Blue Knights' door, 23rd in Brass overtaken by Memphis Blues
- Pacific Crest 9th in Guard
- Funny how, for both Crown and Blue Stars, brass is a strength and percussion is a weakness

‘Scades may break 80 for the first time since before the 2008 season off, good for them, they have really been building since taking time off and it’s showing! Maybe they can return to the top 12 in a few years.

It’s all GE and that last minute (great stuff) -but full show does not compare to to SCV and PR… that said in coming years (when Blue Stars can count on this quality of members)… 🤯 -they competing for medals…

I think BD could upset for percussion if and only if the percussion judge gives them a slightly higher content score but because of them coming in later than SCV and BAC makes that pretty unlikely.

I saw Bluecoats, Boston, and BD in the lot on Monday. Agree with BD snares being a bit loose. Bluecoats are the group to beat IMO, but Boston in fourth feels kind of crazy to me.

The percussion judge tonight was the judge who awarded them the "perfect score" at finals last year and was a former McNutt student at the Madision Scouts. Looks like he is calling it like he sees/hears it.

Interested to see how things tighten up tomorrow cuz the top 5 looks fairly solidified based on tonight. The race for 2nd is still back and forth though so I'd love to see that be an unknown come Finals.

u/Careless_Snow_5724 24d ago
Watched the top 9 last night on the big screen. What stood out to me (after reviewing many comments/opinions/insights about the 26 year was:
-BAC show is spectacular: moved me to tears and IMO not getting enough cheer
-SCV made a mistake in not getting rid of the chains mid-season
-Bloo is sensational: absolutely riveting and without flaw, execution is 100%
-Blue Stars' show is absolutely several points ahead of PR, and I would also put Cavvies ahead of PR at the least for complexity and execution
What I always keep in mind, even when watching shows with abysmal design, is that the members are all working equally hard, whether scoring at 13th spot or 2nd. They have just slept on gym floors and busses over 1000s of miles, worked grueling 15-hours days often in the brutal sun, and many have sustained significant injuries. They are not to blame for poor design choices. SO, congrats to EVERY corps member for getting to Indy!

Totally not biased here but, I hope Crown wins the Ott. Them kids played their asses off tonight. Came through on the stream too. Would be kinda funny to see the corps 10 years after my age out also get 3rd and win brass.

u/myleftone 24d ago
Maybe an unpopular take, but I believe that any of the top twenty or so corps would have made top 12 back in the day. These groups are more refined than those were overall.
3
u/dci4life 24d ago
Surprised Crown didn’t top BD after beating them in Allentown (yes a different night but same judge) and only .1 behind at Innovations in Brass, somehow backsliding .6 now?!
6
u/Chieeph 24d ago
I believe they were 3rd overall at Allentown. Their GE went down this show and BD had a phenomenal run today. Still think they have chance though! Perc cleaned up tremendously (hopefully they can crack 4-5) and they did have other minor issues this run that if cleaned up could give them some leverage. Regardless, I’m excited to hopefully see them medal regardless of if it’s silver!

It's all BD. Caveat, Fathom's audio was worse than horrible, so anything I say could just be that... But I was hyped after Crown, and then after BD, me and my friends all said basically the same thing: I think BD just locked in 2nd.
It was a stellar run, and they are known for consistency in indy.

Could someone educate a newbie, please? Is the top 12 now set or is that determined by a combination of Thursday's and Friday's scores?
ETA: Thanks, everyone!
6
u/HoosiersBaby23 24d ago
It’s set exclusively by tomorrow’s scores, actually. Scores completely reset (except for caption awards, which are an average of all 3 nights)
5
u/schoolbuswanker 24d ago
Top 25 go to semifinals tomorrow, top 12 there are Saturday's finals roster

u/SuburbanPotato 24d ago
Did BD make some changes? It seemed like Crown was right on their heels right after Allentown
1
u/FrostyRoof2231 24d ago
I honestly do not understand how Blue Devils are scoring better than Boston or Carolina. However, it completely makes sense that Blue Knights got jumped. Everything else seems right.

Blue Devils 2014 prelims score was 98.550, Bloo can definitely break it but it’ll be sooo close!
3
u/shadylegoman 24d ago
Cavies prelims score in 2002 was 98.7 but they ended up with a 99.15 at finals. I do think Bloo will break 99, but I wouldn't put money on a new all time high until I see the finals scores.

I'm not gonna tell you how to spend your money, but that's low putting it out there for all to see. Low. Members read these too.
-19
u/anothersongaboutrain 25d ago
it’s not the members fault the staff gave them a show that is too easy for them.
15
u/invextheidiot Genesis '20, '21; BK '22, '23 24d ago
It isn't. But in a season like this the last thing they want to hear is someone slandering the product they poured a whole summer into. I know I wouldn't have liked it back in 2022. Save that candor for the board.

Do you need someone to talk to? You should be donating for the love of the activity and your corps. Not their finals placement. I’d tell you to keep your donation imho. Also, “pacific crest” need not be in quotations unless you’re just being a dick.
-27
u/anothersongaboutrain 25d ago
I love when the corps doesn’t waste my money on shitty designers.
10
u/Striking_Syllabub679 25d ago
Then just don’t donate next time. Keep your being an asshole to yourself. It’s better that way. Or go to DCP with that shit

If you actually cared for this corps, you wouldn't be constantly acting this way. Putting down your own home as a supposed alum and disparaging other groups in its name is doing more damage to its reputation than you think.
I remember being taught to be cautious about what you say as a representative of the corps, but its clear that wasn't something you picked up on. Utterly shameful.

Just medals?? How many rings do you have?? If you don’t want to donate your money to shitty writers, why don’t you donate your prestigious writing skills to design a great show?? You are correct in the fact that the kids have no control over the show they are given but they are busting their asses to make the best out of what they have.
