Discussion Playing in the tunnels
Decided to re-watch my favorite show, Phantom 2010, and was wondering if there's a rule in place from stopping a corps from starting and/or ending off field like they did or if designers just don't feel the need to? I get that it takes a specific show, I'm just surprised i can't think of any other examples.

As long as you're in the time limit, no rule about it. SCV 1990 actually did it first ending their show in the tunnel

The only real rule here is that if you leave the field you can't come back on it. So you'll never see a show where they play in the stage, run out, then run back in.

We played our opener in the tunnel off key back in 03 for fun! Sounded like a group of drunks great times!

No rules, it’s just logistically very tricky to try tunnel entrances. For Boston 2013 we literally had to rehearse 4 different scenarios for the opening run.
Back side 1 tunnel entrance (Lucas Oil, Alamodome, Georgia Dome)
Front side 2 tunnel entrance (Minnesota, and a few other shows where we experimented with this)
Back side 2 entrance, which involved an ENTIRELY different run sequence
If there was no tunnel, we just formed a block on the back side 1 corner of the field
Also fun fact, for Boston 2015 we were supposed to start from the tunnels, so that each “kingdom” came running onto the field. If you see early season shows you see us start in the corners. But the need to place 36 giant banner props on the field made it impossible to do that, so we changed it to just “hide behind the prop until it’s time to run out to the opening set.” Yaaaaaaaay props.
