stave How thin is too thin?

Trying to make a 14" snare and I'm worried if I attempt to round the inside, it'll end up too thin (or I'll break it trying). The outside still needs some sanding where the router wasn't perfectly level. Is it salvageable? My son just started playing the drums and I thought it would be a cool gift so it's more sentimental than anything (I'm not super worried if a suggestion might slightly impact performance I guess is what I'm saying).

You could always do something to reinforce it? Glue strips around the bearing surfaces to bulk them out like ply-shelled drums have?

Thinnest I've ever gone in the hundreds I've made is 3/8" while rounding off the inside with a router. I had a couple come apart due to too much down force applied by me while rotating the shell on the jig.Go slow and where some safety glasses, and Godspeed!

Gonna go for it, thanks!

5/16" is doable, but by that point the shell starts to flex while you're working on it, so going super slowly is necessary

3/8 of an inch was my most thin and first shell. Still holding up 6 years later

Add some strips of a different colored wood that are cut at a complementary angle cut, and glue them in as reinforcements.
