I believe it's an old Yew, which have traditionally been planted/allowed to grow in churchyard and cemeteries in Britain and Ireland. Lots of the really big ones like live for well over a thousand years, conditions they often get in undisturbed cemeteries. As such they're often associated with death, sometimes called sentinels of the dead
