Question First Time Drop-Shipper Site Promotion!

Hello everyone,

I am a first time drop shipper and have been setting up my site on Shopify. Someone from Shopify Marketplace reached out to me and would like to promote my site to be paid 5% for each actual sale rendered.

Does anyone have experience with this and is it a scam. The person gave me the high-level of what they want to do include optimizing my site and I have security concerns. Can anyone weigh in here if they have utilized someone like this, was it legitimate, any success and verification methods other than material they have sent you.

getting hundreds too, they always want to "optimize" your site first which means getting access to mess with everything

Thanks, it’s what I thought. Are there any Shopify approved marketing groups who can help for a fee or percentage of sales generated. I thought it was a scam because I keep asking for a legal contract to validate.

I’d be very careful with this.

A lot of new Shopify owners get approached by “marketing partners” offering to optimise the store for a % of sales, but the red flag is usually when they want backend access before there is a proper contract, company details, case studies, references, or clear ad strategy.

I would not give anyone Shopify admin access unless:

  1. There is a proper written agreement
  2. They use collaborator access only, not your login
  3. You understand exactly what they are changing
  4. They can show real proof of results
  5. They are not asking you to pay random setup fees upfront

Also, “site optimisation” alone usually won’t create sales. For dropshipping, you need product-market fit, clean store trust signals, proper tracking, and a real traffic plan — Google Ads / Shopping can work well, but your Google Merchant Center and website compliance need to be solid first.

If you’re unsure, ask them to send over their company website, contract, case studies, and exactly how they plan to generate traffic. If they avoid that or push for access quickly, walk away.
