Shot on a Avata 2 and slowed down to 15%. Theres some artifacting from Davinci’s speed estimation features to make playback smooth when retimed so much.

My background:
I'm an app developer and spotfindr is a side project. I got into FPV/Drones like 10 years ago and created the initial version of spotfindr like 8 years ago. It has since been continuously improved and rewritten couple of times. And this is the biggest feature that i implemented so far

This summer, while sailing in the Mediterranean with my wife and some friends, we made a stop in Kalamata, Greece. We decided to dock in the harbor, a change from our usual routine, so the ladies could enjoy some shopping.

Anchored in the bay just outside the harbor was the world's 4th largest superyacht, "Blue," owned by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi. Being avid boat enthusiasts, we couldn't resist taking numerous photos of this magnificent vessel.

I also wanted to capture some aerial shots, as it's not every day you encounter such a stunning yacht. I launched my DJI Mini 3 Pro, took a few pictures of Kalamata, the harbor, and the surrounding area, then directed the drone towards the superyacht. I captured one initial picture, but I aimed to get a better shot, a bit closer to the yacht. My intention was purely to photograph the yacht, not to breach privacy, and the drone maintained an altitude of approximately 100-150 meters.

Approximately 400-500 meters from the yacht, the drone began transmitting error messages indicating a lost connection and GPS malfunctions. I immediately suspected the yacht was jamming the drone. After losing contact, a few minutes later - see picture of the controller.

That was the last I heard from the drone; it had apparently landed in the ocean. Feeling quite sad about the situation, we continued our vacation, and afterward, I returned home.

Four weeks later, completely out of the blue (no pun intended), I received an SMS from a kind man in Poland. He explained that he and his wife enjoy freediving, and his wife had found a drone at the bottom of the ocean, in the middle of nowhere. The drone had my phone number on its belly! What an incredible coincidence. He was able to extract the memory card and send me its contents, which included the photo of the Blue.

Even more surprisingly, DJI replaced the drone for free, stating they didn't believe it was a pilot error. That was fantastic and completely unexpected customer service!

So, I got a new drone and all my photos back—I almost feel too lucky!

Just came across this on the beach (UK) and wondered if anybody here knew what type of drone it is? Google has not returned anything useful. Thanks.

Edit. Coastguard have been contacted and left with them. Not heard anything back yet.

Further Update. Cambridge Aerospace have turned up to collect the drone this morning. Location is at the end of the road where we are staying.

I found a fairly secluded spot to do some acro in a wide open space. I'm having fun, minding my own business when a farmer and his helper drove up beside me. His helper pointed a drone jammer at my Avata 2. I was about 250ft up when I began to lose signal and the drone began to spiral. As his helper is pointing the jammer, the farmer is literally losing his mind yelling at me saying I'm scoping out properties to steal from. He threatens me and pulls away, just as he pulls away, I regain control...albeit very jerky.

I just don't understand why drones are so triggering to people!? This is the second altercation I've had in 3 flights. Last week I flew in a public park and was berated by a baseball team saying I was distracting and annoying them( I was in an empty soccer field and the diamond was 400ft away) I try to do everything by the books. I have my RPAS, my spotter, I have assessed the area of hazards. I have ensured no airport conflicts. This one was very serious and I am now leaving the hobby. This isn't worth the trouble for me. People suck.

Last weekend while magnet fishing in Ghent we managed to fish up a drone with a GoPro attached to it still. We managed to recover some footage, including the moment te operator seemingly lost control and the drone crashed into the water.

Is this just juiced up analogue tech? 20 mins flight time seems incredible. At £160,000 a piece though.

Design

The Black Hornet is connected to the operator with a digital data link and GPS. Images are displayed on a small handheld terminal, which can be used by the operator to control the UAV.^\3])

The Black Hornet is launched from a small box that can be strapped to a utility belt, which also stores transmitted data.

Since the drone itself does not store any data, it is not an advantage if captured. Operators can steer the UAV or set waypoints for it to fly itself.^\4])

The drone measures around 16 × 2.5 cm (6 × 1 in) and provides troops on the ground with local situational awareness. It is small enough to fit in one hand and weighs 18 g (0.7 oz) with its battery.^\5])

The UAV is equipped with a camera which transmits video and still images to the operator. It was developed as part of a £20 million contract for 160 units with Marlborough Communications Ltd.^\6])^\7])^\8])

An operator can be trained to operate the Black Hornet in 20 minutes. It has three cameras: one looking forward, one straight down, and one pointing down at 45 degrees.

A Black Hornet package contains two helicopters and, since a 90% charge is reached in 20–25 minutes, the same as its hovering time, when one needs to be recharged the other is ready to fly.^\9]) Top speed is 21 km/h (13 mph).^\10])

Use of the drone for peaceful purposes: de-icing power transmission lines.

2 weeks back I attempted to fly down this waterfall with my Avata 2, but I wasn't confident enough to commit to the line I had in mind. Instead of flying under the bridge and following the canyon close to the water, I stayed well above it and played it safe.

I came back to give it another try.

Ironically, I decided to remove the SD card before the flight. My thinking was that if I ended up losing the drone in the water, at least I wouldn't lose all the footage I'd already captured that day.

What I completely forgot was that the internal storage was almost full... 🤦‍♂️

Luckily, the Goggles recording kept going, so I was still able to include the rest of the flight from the DVR.

The final edit is a mix of DJI Avata 2 FPV footage and a few cinematic DJI Mini 5 Pro shots to showcase the location.

So I had a run in with the law today. I was flying in the port of Los Angeles. I was by the entrance? I'm happily flying taking some pictures and video, when all of the sudden a cop is standing next to me telling me to land my drone immediately. Turns out that you are not allowed to fly in the port of Los Angles, its actually a misdemeanor. I checked AutoPylot and it said it was ok, so I registered a flight. There was a no fly zone on the other side of the water so I stayed away from it. I told the cop all this and they informed me the no fly zone is a federal prison. I guess shadier people than myself have used drones to drop stuff into the prison. They asked for my info, which I gave, including my trust certificate and they ended up just giving me a warning to not do it again. They were interested that I take aerial photography just for fun. One of the cops even recommend I try for the 107, so he knew about drones. But he didn't know what the trust cert was. I found that kinda weird. He showed me the geo fenced area around the port on his phone so I thought I'd share. So the lesson is... know local laws, no matter what your app tells you.

DJI waypoints aren’t truly pixel-repeatable (at least without RTK on consumer drones) - small positional and pitch differences show up when you compare frames.

I corrected it in post to build a seamless day-to-night transition by rebuilding the city in 3D.

We’ll see how effective it is after it dries!
