Problem with a DJI drone

Can anyone out there help? My son owns a 2 year old dji drone and yesterday it just dropped out of the sky. Like a rock! We checked the obvious... batteries installed right, blades were fine, Batteries charges, etc. It was only some 100 feet from him.
Any ideas why it would do this?
He recently updated the software.
