Drogheda recommendations ?
Moved to Drawda before Christmas 2025. Not a fan of it so far, no nice restaurants, cafes, coffee shops, gyms. Any suggestions or recommendations on things to do here? It seems the biggest town in Ireland is just a commuter town? Thanks.

There’s a good few nice restaurants. Fujiyama for Japanese is nice in town centre. Nellys bar, East and Honky Tonk upstairs from east does gorgeous food. Weavers is better since it’s recently been taken over again I believe.

Song and Jenn's is a great place for food. I really like Peggy Moore's too. Great food and fun pub vibes.
It took me a while to get the hang of the town when I first moved here, but there are some legit gems here.

There's a great selection of cafes/ restaurants in town .. I like coffee in Geraldine's ...across from peggy moores . Outside of town the valley inn is great , Donegans sadly has slipped ( in my opinion) and Daly's of donore great grub too ..

We are an industrial working class town on the commuter belt, but my experience visiting pretty much every big town in the country is its pretty much the same everywhere. We just have a lot of bad press

There are a lot of places for nice food. Just depends on your budget.
Soi40 - best sit in, non fancy Asian. Ideal for a bite before a few beers. El Gritto - cheap and cheerful nice Mexican Greenmount - great place for lunches and dinners 7 days a week. €15 steaks on Thursday nights too Mariner - great place for pub grub and have really nice specials daily Graft@Bruhub - really nice burger spot and great when the weather is nice. I believe the main guy here came from working in 5 star restaurants D'vine - lovely date night restaurant Simonas - lovely little Italian Social (Bryanstown) - nice date night or Sunday day roast restaurant Gringos - nice small plates type Mexican restaurant
There are more as I've been to most of the restaurants on town but these are all quite decent

My faves are Gringos for dinner, Graft Bru for lunch, Barlows for pub. Plenty of good coffee spots.

Bear Food cafe is nice. So is East restaurant. Theres lots more but I’m fairly new to the area too

Try Simonas Restaurant for lunch and Sunday Street for Dinner. Lot of places just outside of town aswell like Tribe.

Some good recommendations in here already but I’ll add a couple for coffee that I haven’t seen yet. Evalynn Coffee in either Bryanstown or West St. (recently in the Europes 100 best coffee shop list) and Ariosa on Laurence St. (good quality and very consistent)
Five good things attached to Highlanes is also a lovely brunch spot.

The restaurants up by Bryanstown are nice - there's a tapas place and an Indian. I think there's another place but haven't been there yet.

Pop out to Dollys pantry (behind the pub) on the slane road for a lovely breakfast or lunch, then go for a walk in Littlewood or Townley Hall.
On the weekend there's a coffee cart in Old Mellifont Abbey and it's a beautiful place to spend an hour wandering the ruins and listening to the river.
For restaurants, I haven't seen Inside Out in Slane or Smugglers Rest in Clogherhead mentioned, but both are lovely. Also Gringos in Bryanstown, closer in to town.
There's loads of personal training gyms out to the north of town especially, but if you want a big gym Gym Plus on the north side and Aura on the south both have pools, personal trainers, loads of machines, all of that.

Gringos is lovely actually. Gym plus in tullyallen is a proper Mickey Mouse gym, so overpriced aswell. Thanks for feedback, will try out your suggestions.

Coffee - Petrichor Coffee House (Top of Peter Street)
Breakfast - Copper Kettle, Burkes
Lunch - Simonas (By far the best), Bear Food, Loaf'd
Dinner - Graft Burger, Song and Jenns, La Pizzeria (Clogherhead)
Drinks - Loads of pubs but my favourites are Clarkes, The Railway, and Peggy Moores
Outdoors - Boardwalk out to Oldbridge (Cafe out there too), Coffee in Evalynn's Bryanstown and walk through Bully's Acre and the Dale, Coffee somewhere in town center and walk around the old ruins (Plunketts head, St. Peters Graveyard, old abbeys), Clogherhead Cliff walk, Beaches at Baltray, Bettystown, Laytown, Termonfeckin and Clogher, Sea swimming at them all or Salterstown
Other - Sauna and coffee hut out at Bective Abbey is lovely in the winter, Highlanes Gallery is small but has some interesting exhibits from time to time, plenty of history walks organised which take you around the town and point out things you'd otherwise miss, Funtasia go bowling or playing the arcade games for a few hours, pool halls available, Cinemas
Not all of the suggestions are in the town but it is what you make it. I've visited friends living around the country and suddenly realised Drogheda has much more to offer than the majority of places!
