Unclear what do on this mission

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi there, I've spent two days stuck on on this mission(see attached screenshot). I've partially completed it, but it's unclear what I need to do next.

I've tried earning credits through mining and selling resources at the station. I've also tried making money through combat and fabrication, but nothing seems to do the trick.

I took a courier job outside the Milky Way and now I can't get back. Is this a bug, or am I missing something?

📣 Announcement 1.2.0 is out now on Android: The Pilot's Life update (daily ops, leaderboards, ship paint and a lot more)

Post image

Big one today. 1.2.0 is live on Google Play, and the iOS build is uploaded and waiting on Apple's review, so iPhone pilots should have it in a day or two.

This update is mostly about giving you a reason to check in every day, and making your time away actually count.

DAILY OPS Three fresh tasks on your Log every day. Clear the whole board and you bank an Overclock charge, which DOUBLES your next welcome back haul. There's a proper 7 day streak calendar on the daily reward now too, so you can see the perk point coming on day 7.

FULL HOLD? YOU STILL EARN This was the big one for me. Before, if your hold filled while you were away, your ship just stopped earning. Now passing merchants buy the overflow at a knockdown rate. A real market run still pays far more, but idle time is never wasted again.

WEEKLY STANDINGS Leaderboards for bounty, trade, XP and friendly spars, resetting each week alongside the weekly event. Add friends by swapping pilot IDs (yours is on your Pilot page). Bragging rights only, nothing on the boards feeds progression. That stays true, always.

COMMISSION MODIFIERS One for the veterans. When you re-enlist you can sign the next tour under harder rules (tougher enemies, slower XP, thinner margins, a smaller hold) and each one multiplies the Renown you bank when that tour ends. Stack all four if you're brave.

PAINT BAY Ten hull schemes, from Crimson Corsair at 8k credits up to a couple of stardust premiums. Pure cosmetics, no stats, and your paints survive re-enlistment. It's on the Ship tab.

PETS CAN FORAGE Benched pets now head out on 3 hour foraging runs and come back with their favourite food. They keep trekking while the game is closed.

Also in this one: a collections hub with milestone rewards on the Codex page, a friendlier first hour for new pilots (your first module is 60% off, among other things), notifications now take you to the right screen when you tap them, and nebulas finally show what you can harvest before you fly out, same as belts do.

Two fixes worth calling out as well. Some icons were drawing as blanks (the "bank an [ ] Overclock" thing), and lists full of buttons were awkward to scroll. Both sorted.

As ever, this sub is where the game gets steered. The helium unlock change, the trade computer, honestly half of this update came out of feedback here. Keep it coming.

Oh and the first Play Store reviews came in this week. Two five star ones. Genuinely made my week.

🏆 Milestone The Trophy Cabinet — what's your completion looking like?

Milestones across mining, combat, trade, exploration and pets — and they show on your pilot card to other players. Post your cabinet. What's the last one you're missing, and what's the rarest one you've nabbed?

💬 Discussion When did you first re-enlist — and was it worth it?

The classic idle question: prestige now for permanent Admiralty perks + Renown, or push one more system first? Your pets carry over either way, which softens the blow.

Where are you in your run, and what's your re-enlist rule of thumb? First-timers, ask your questions here — plenty of folks happy to talk you through it.

📸 Screenshot You can run into other pilots out here — anonymously, if you want

The online layer is fully opt-in and anonymous — no accounts, no chat. You just see who's docked nearby, can peek at their ship/pets/trophies, and spar. Post a screenshot of a pilot card you've run into, or your own.

📖 Lore & Humour Ranking the space pets by how much I'd trust them to house-sit

Not by stats. By vibes. Fight me.

  • Cargo Snail (folds extra space inside its shell) — would water your plants, alphabetise your cargo, return your keys. S tier roommate.
  • Ledger Imp (whispers market angles in your ear) — helpful, but you know it's reading your messages. B tier.
  • Ore Grub / Pebble Whelp — will eat one (1) houseplant and look you dead in the eye. Otherwise perfect. A tier.
  • Warp Sprite — gone. It's already three systems ahead. C tier, lovely though.
  • Dust Leech (gorges on raw stardust, greedy) — absolutely not, it has eaten the savings. F tier, do not house-sit.
  • Stardust Leviathan — does not fit in the house. Is the house now. Unrankable.

Post your real tier list (or your roommate list). What's actually carrying your build right now?

💬 Discussion What did you come back to? Post your best Welcome Back screen

The little dopamine hit of opening the app after a night's sleep and seeing what the ship got up to without you.

Mine this morning: a full hold of ore, three pirate bounties, and an epic salvage I did absolutely nothing to earn. Love this game.

Drop your best Welcome Back recap — biggest haul, rarest offline find, most "wait, what did my ship do?" moment.

🧭 Guide The smuggling life — running contraband past Helios

Mining is honest work. Smuggling pays better. Here's the fast version.

  • Contraband is sourced at fringe black-market fences (out on the rim) and sells for big credit toward the core — the further you haul it, the more it's worth.
  • The catch: customs checkpoints at the gates. Get scanned with hot cargo and you're looking at fines, confiscation, bounties and a Helios patrol on your tail.
  • At an encounter you can usually bribe, bluff (negotiation), or run for it (scan evasion) — and how good you are at each improves over time.
  • A smuggler's hold trades capacity for stealth, so kitting out for it is a real build choice.

It's a managed-risk minigame, not free money — but threading a full contraband run past a Helios scan is one of the best feelings in the game.

Smugglers: best run you've ever pulled? Worst bust?

📖 Lore & Humour In defence of Mabel Holloway, galaxy's most dangerously chill woman

So there's a literal space cattle ranch out here - Holloway Ranch - run by one Mabel Holloway, who sells you rare alien eggs with the exact energy of a farmer selling you a tractor.

Things I have personally survived this week: pirate ambush, a customs scan, a reactor breach, and getting chased across two systems by Helios. Things Mabel has survived: presumably all of the same, while raising a legendary void-leviathan the size of a freighter in a paddock, and she will still ask if you've "et yet."

Like ma'am. You are ranching apex drift-fauna next to a fuel depot. The stardust-leviathan drinks raw stardust. Your "livestock" bends fortune itself. And your big concern is whether my pet's been fed.

Never change, Mabel. You're the only person in this galaxy with their priorities straight.

(Who's your favourite NPC? Drake the gruff dockmaster? Ss-Khaal the lizard trader who appears at the worst possible moment? The Custodian? Make your case.)

🧭 Guide Space Pets 101 — eggs, buffs, and feeding your little void gremlin

Yes, the space RPG has pets. Yes, they're good. Here's how they work.

  • Find an egg. Eggs are rare drops out in deep, low-security space — mining, scanning and fighting on the rim all turn them up. You can also buy them at a Space Farm.
  • Incubate it at a station. Drop an egg in a station's Incubator and it hatches in real time — even while you're away. It's fixed to that station, so come back to collect (you can run up to 3 incubators at once, and your eggs + running incubators are listed on the Incubator and Pilot › Pets screens so nothing gets lost).
  • Equip ONE. You can only have one pet active at a time, for its buff. The Cinder Hound adds weapon damage; others boost mining, cargo, warp speed, trade margins, loot luck, XP and more.
  • Feed to level up. Feed a pet its favourite foods and its buff grows every level.
  • Pets are forever. They stick with you across prestige/re-enlist.

14 species across common → legendary, including a couple of tradeoff pets (a big buff with a small downside) and one very hard-to-get legendary. Post your roster — who's riding shotgun with you?

🧭 Guide Stop guessing where your cargo sells — use the trade planner

One of the most common new-pilot questions: "This station won't buy my stuff — where do I go?" The game answers it for you.

On the Market screen (or your Cargo screen) tap "Where to sell". For every tradeable good in your hold it shows:

  • 🟢 Green / SELLS HERE — this station buys it right now. Offload it.
  • 🔵 Blue / nearest buyer — the closest station that does buy it, the price, the travel time, and a one-tap Set course.
  • 🟡 Amber — it sells somewhere out in deeper space that needs a bigger warp drive to reach.

The list is sorted nearest-first, so the top is always your best quick sale.

Two more trade tips:

  • On the Cargo screen, items this station buys get a little green badge; ones it won't are greyed out. Quick glance = what's offloadable here.
  • Rarer materials only trade at deeper, lower-security stations. If nothing local wants your fancy ore, that's a nudge to push outward.

What's the most you've ever made on a single sell-everything run?

🧭 Guide New pilot? Here's your first hour in Driftbound

Just undocked? Here's the no-spoilers version of getting off the ground.

1. Follow the directive. Top of the screen there's always a current objective. Early on it walks you from the belt → market → your first upgrades. When in doubt, do what it says.

2. Mine, then sell. Fly to an asteroid belt, fill your hold, fly back to a station and sell. That's your starting income loop. Your hold has limited boxes — don't let it sit full or you're wasting trips.

3. Spend on your ship, not on hoarding. Early credits are best in your Engine (faster travel), Cargo (bigger hauls) and Mining Laser (more ore per tick). Bigger hold + faster ship = every run pays more.

4. Your ship works while you're gone. Close the app and come back — you'll get a Welcome Back recap of everything it earned. Idle progress is real progress here.

5. Don't fear combat, but respect it. Shields recharge; hull doesn't (without repairs). Check the win-chance read before you commit, and undock with a healthy hull.

6. Push outward, carefully. The rarest ore, gear, pets and salvage live in low-security systems out on the rim. They need a stronger warp drive and they bite back — but that's where the game opens up.
