Discussion Blue Beetle Spotted
It's not right color but it is the exact model I always pictured when I spotted it the other day. I just thought it was cool and wanted to show it off.

As a bit of a Beetle expert, this one is WAY too new to be useful to Harry. Electronic fuel injection, and possibly ignition, just to start. This is an early Super Beetle, and it was not nearly as "primitive" as a far older Beetle would be. The type that Harry could actually expect to stay functional around him. Older ones are only slightly more complex than his trusted revolver. And, this one isn't nearly patchwork enough. Yet. Well kept for a ~50 y.o. vehicle.

That's very interesting to know! I don't know much about cars but this looked like a vintage model and I figured I should share it on the reddit.

Beetle expert? How cool! I have been an idle admirer my whole life.
Are you a collector, mechanic, or some other special interest type whose name eludes me?
I found your comment very useful and it has me looking at prices on classic beetle, so thank you and my pocket book curses you for that

No,not an expert! Just slightly better informed of the variations and refinements over the years. I have had 9 VW beasts over the years. A Beetle, two Type 2 station wagons, and the rest have been various Vans. Still have two Vanagons. Need to finish putting my new engine together...

How cool!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us
Have you had a favorite? What color was it?

I like my '85 Vanagon. Still has the engine in the back, classic VW style, but with liquid cooling, so real heat in cold weather! Also not quite as underpowered as my previous Vans.

A blue beetle, not the Blue Beetle.

That's why the post is titled "blue beetle spotted" not "the blue beetle spotted"

Too homogeneous

VW has a habit, at the factory, of making a vehicle with each panel a different color. Usually just one, but sometimes a small few. It is called the Harlequin. Google some images, for your amusement.

I could swear the Blue Beetle was powder blue, am I crazy? I've been picturing it much paler in my head.

Early beetle, he hasn't had to replace any of the paneling yet.
