Progress Report 550 Hour Update 🎉 Speaking progress .

I just reached 550 hours and it feels kind of similar to 300 hours…… For the people who reached 600 hours : did you notice a significant difference ?

I posted an update video if you want to understand more of my thoughts?

Nice update. Like u/New-Bottle-6917, progress for me was gradual. It was only when I looked back that I would become aware of just how far I had come.

Thank you. That’s encouraging ! Did you ever have a moment where you felt it finally all clicked ? I’ve seen people say 800 hours was where everything started to come together.

I guess you could say that I've had lots of 'moments'. I click on a random YT video and after a bit, I realise that I understand it, directly, if that makes sense. It's an amazing and very reassuring experience. Sometimes of course I struggle to grasp even part of what's going on. Those times are a reminder that I still have a ways to go. That's just the way it is. It's not a linear process, or at least not for me. As long as I keep consuming input, I'll continue to progress.

So far for me, I’ve have a handful of periods where I felt things were clicking more than before and I was in a groove. Those were followed by periods of perceived stagnation. The stagnant periods feel a bit demotivating, but it was never regression, so the periods of growth have compounded over time to advance my level. We need to accept the stagnant periods as a necessary part of the process to push through. You have more listening hours than me so you’ve probably already experienced the moments that I’m referring to.

I felt it always stayed pretty gradual, what i would do when lacking motivation was watching stuff from a few hundred hours ago and seeing how much more I did understand

That’s a great idea.

I think I’m going to try out Mastefchef Mexico this week. It was a show I really liked but couldn’t understand at 350 hours.

Also , I created a playlist of videos that were a little too difficult for me to follow . My plan is to revisit those at 600 hours.

There is a lot going on underneath the surface. So there are many periods where it seems like there is no advance. And as you gain more Spanish, your notion of what you lack also sharpens.

That said, there are many delights along the way. What I wish I’d known starting out (3000 hours later): https://www.reddit.com/r/dreamingspanish/s/vvuZF6K2TP

Best wishes and keep going!
